WHO IS RAYA?
One of the greatest kings of India. He ruled whole of south India in the 16th
century.
WHERE IS KUMBAKONAM?
Kumbakonam is a town in Tamil Nadu with lot of temples.
WHAT IS MAHAMAGAM ?
MAHAMAHAM tank is in Kumbakonam. Every 12 year, a festival is held and lakes of
people come to the tank to take bath. They believe that their sins will be
washed away or their demands will be fulfilled.
it is interesting to read even a great king came all the way to Kumbakonam.
Here’s the detail
After conquering Gajapati Kingdom he went straight to Tirupati without
returning to his capital Hampi. He went to Kalahasti, Madurai, Alagarkoil,
Sriviliputur and all Tamil Nadu shrines.
Inscriptions give precise details and they are supported by literature. But
there are minor discrepancies.
He was in Kumbakonam on sixth February 1517.

NOTTINGHILL CARNIVAL IS HELD IN NOTTINGHILL AREA OF LONDON EVERY YEAR FROM 1966.
It is the largest street festival held in the world.It is held on summer bank holiday Monday. Previous day, Sunday, is for children. I attended children’s day last year. This year I went yesterday to cover the adult’s day. But I could see only 25 percent of the carnival because of one million people crowd. In addition to Afro Caribbean countries Brazilians also participated.
My news summary—
You have to swim through the crowd; you may be crushed and squeezed.
Probably I was the only Indian in the crowd; last year I saw some Indians in the crowd, because that was for the children (first day of two day festival in August every year).
No women came in full dress. No one can blame them; it is their culture.
Everyone must inhale drugs; because most people smoke narcotic drugs in the crowd.
Non veg. smell from 300 food shops may suffocate vegetarians like me. Matted hair black Rastafarians are vegetarians. They had their veggy food stall, but I couldn’t find it.
No one walked except me. They danced while walking or they walked while dancing!!
I saw three people fainting and taken out from the crowd. There may be hundreds of cases like this.
This morning news papers reported 257 people were arrested for minor offences.
12,500 police, 1000 stewards, one million people- amazing indeed!!
Scores of bands on buses and trucks waded through the streets. Four underground stations were closed and people have to walk miles and miles.
I managed to wade through the crowd for three hours and when I felt I am dehydrated I came out. 33 degree C took all the water in the body.
This morning I saw close up pictures of dancing girls in the Sun newspaper. Because journalists get pre- view they ask the women to pose for them and take 50 snaps for each. My pictures here are taken by me in the crowd. Enjoy them if you can; if you want juicy pictures go to newspapers, particularly The Sun.

பாரதி இயல்
மஹாகவி பாரதியார் பற்றிய நூல்கள் – 60 – பகுதி 1
டி.என்.இராமச்சந்திரன் எழுதியுள்ள ‘வழி வழி பாரதி’
சேக்கிழார் அடிப்பொடி திரு டி.என். இராமச்சந்திரன் சேக்கிழாரில் தோய்ந்தவர். இவரில் சேக்கிழாரில் மட்டும் தோய்ந்தவர் அல்ல, பாரதியிலும் தோய்ந்தவர் என்பதை இந்த நூல் நிரூபிக்கிறது.
நன்கு ஆய்வு செய்து எழுதப்பட்ட நூல் இது.
400 பக்கம் கொண்ட நூல் 14 அத்தியாயங்களைக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. 2000, டிசம்பர் 11ஆம் தேதி வெளியிடப்பட்ட இந்த நூலை ஸ்ரீ புவனேஸ்வரி பதிப்பகம், 2, மாடல் ஹவுஸ் லேன், சி.ஐ.டி.நகர் சென்னை – 35 பதிப்பிட்டுள்ளது.
நூலுக்கு அறிமுக உரையைத் தந்து சிறப்பித்துள்ளவர் ஆகப் பெரும் தமிழறிஞரான தி.வே.கோபாலையன் ஆவார்.
அவர் தனது உரையில் கூறுவது இது :-
“பாரதியாரை ஓரளவு உணர்வதற்கு அவரிடத்து உபாசனை, அவரை உபாசித்து உயர்ந்தவர்களின் நட்பு, பழுத்த தமிழ்ப்புலமை, பாரத தேயப் பொது மொழியாகிய வடமொழி அறிவு, உலகப் பொது மொழியாகிய ஆங்கிலத்தில் தேர்ந்த புலமை, பாரதியாரின் பெருமையை ஏனைய மொழிப் பெருங்கவிஞரோடு ஒப்பிட்டுக் காணுதற்கு உரிய கூர்த்த நுண்ணறிவு என்பன இன்றியமையாதன.”
“ பாரதியாரை உணர்தற்கு உரிய மேற்குறித்த தகுதிகள் யாவும் குறைவறப்பெற்று அவர் கவிதைகள் முழுதையும் ஆங்கிலத்தில் மொழிபெயர்த்து அளித்துள்ள இந் நூலாசிரியர் சேக்கிழார் அடிப்பொடி டி.என்.இராமச்சந்திரன் அவர்கள் பாரதியாரை உணர்ந்து நமக்கு உணர்த்துதற்குரிய முழுத் தகுதியும் பெற்றவர். மரபு நிலை திரியா மாண்புடைய பாரதியார் உலகச் சான்றோர் வழி வந்த மூதறிஞர் என்பதனை மக்களுக்குப் புலப்படுத்தவே இந்த நூல் எழுந்துள்ளது.”
பேரறிஞரே இப்படி மதிப்பீட்டு உரை வழங்கிய பின்னர் நாம் பரவசப்பட்டு புத்தகத்தை படிக்க ஆரம்பிக்க வேண்டியது தானே!
பாரதியாரைப் பற்றிய பல பொய்ச் செய்திகள் ஊடகங்கள் வாயிலாகத் திட்டமிட்டு பரப்பப்படுவது பற்றி நூலாசிரியர் கவலை கொள்வது இயல்பே. பாரதியாரைத் திரித்தும், மறைத்தும், தனக்கு வேண்டுவனவற்றை அவர் மேல் புனைந்தும் அவரை இழிவு படுத்தும் வேலையில் பலர் இறங்கியுள்ளது உண்மையே.
ஆகவே பாரதியாரை “உள்ளது உள்ளபடி” அறிய வேண்டுவது அவசியமாகிறது.
அதற்கு இந்த நூலாசிரியர் போன்ற நுண்மான் நுழைபுலம் மிக்க பாரதி அன்பர்களின் பல நூல்கள் தேவை.
‘வழி வழி பாரதி’ என்ற முதல் அத்தியாயத்தில் வேத உண்மைகளை பாரதியார் எடுத்துரைக்கும் பாங்கு விவரிக்கப்படுகிறது. பாரதியார் ஒரு வேத ரிஷி என்பதை நிரூபிக்கும் அவரது பாடல்களையும் தத்துவங்களையும் விளக்கும் நூலாசிரியர் அவர் தமிழின் தவத் திருமகனாகவும் விளங்குவதை ஆதாரங்களுடன் விளக்குகிறார். சங்க இலக்கியம், கம்பர், திருவள்ளுவர், இளங்கோ என்ற பாரம்பரிய வழி வழி வந்தவர் பாரதியார் என்பதை ஏராளமான மேற்கொள்கள் விளக்குகின்றன.
மகிழ்கிறோம். மலைக்கிறோம்.
அடுத்த அத்தியாயமான ‘மகாகவி பாரதியாரின் கவிதை உலகம்’ அவர் வாழ்க்கையின் முக்கிய நிகழ்ச்சிகளைத் தொகுத்து வழங்குகிறது.அத்தோடு பாரதியாரின் இளமைக் காலப் பாடல்கள், பக்திப் பாடல்கள், ஞானப் பாடல்கள், குயில் பாட்டு, கண்ணன் பாட்டு, பாஞ்சாலி சபதம் ஆகியவை பற்றிய ஒரு சிறந்த திறனாய்வையும் இந்த அத்தியாயம் தருகிறது. நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தம், சம்பந்தர் தேவாரம், லாங்ஃபெலோ கவிதை என ஏராளமான பாடல்களுடன் பாரதியாரை ஒப்பீடு செய்து ஆதாரங்களுடன் அவரது கவித் திறத்தை நூலாசிரியர் விளக்குகிறார்.
அடுத்து வரும் ‘பாரதி தமிழ்’ என்ற அத்தியாயத்தில், “Bharati is too great a theme for me’ (என் வீச்சுக்கு உட்படாத சாலப் பெரியோன் பாரதி) என்ற கே.எஸ்.வெங்கடரமணியின் கூற்றை மேற்கோள் காட்டும் நூலாசிரியர், “எளியோனால் என்ன சாதிக்க முடியும்?”
என்று கேட்கிறார். ஆனாலும் சாதிக்கிறார் நன்கு!
மெல்லிது என்று வள்ளுவன் கூறிய சொல்லுக்கு இணையான ஆங்கிலச் சொல் எது? Soft என்று கூறலாமா? இல்லை, இன்னும் கூடுதலான பொருள் பொதிந்தது அல்லவா இது? Tender? ஊஹூம்!
Delicate? ஊஹூம்! Subtle? மெல்லிது, மெல்லிது தான்!
‘இதே போல சொல்லை உபாசித்த ப்ரம்மரிஷி நமது பாரதி’ என்று கூறும் நூலாசிரியர், உதாரணங்களாக நம் முன் பல வரிகளை வைக்கிறார்:
வான மளந்த தனைத்து மளந்திடும்
வண் மொழி வாழியவே
விண்ணை இடிக்கும் தலை யிமயம் – எனும்
வெற்பை யடிக்கும் திறன் உடையார் – சமர்
பண்ணிக் கலிங்கத் திருள் கெடுத்தார் – தமிழ்ப்
பார்த்திவர் நின்ற தமிழ்நாடு
ஆதிப் பரம்பொருளின் ஊக்கம் – அதை
அன்னை எனப் பணிதல் ஆக்கம்
கல்லினுக்குள் அறிவொளி காணுங்கால்
அடுத்து பாரதியார் பாடல்களில் வேதாந்தக் கருத்துக்கள் என்ற அத்தியாயத்தில் பாரதியாரின் வேதாந்தக் கருத்து விளக்கத்தைக் காண முடிகிறது.
ஒவ்வொரு அத்தியாயத்திலும் தரப்படும் கருத்துக்கள் தமிழ் இலக்கியத்தில் சங்க இலக்கியத்தில் ஆரம்பித்து தேவார, நாலாயிர திவ்ய பிரபந்தம் ஈறாக உள்ள கருத்துக்களுடனும் சொற்களுடனும, உரசப்பட்டு, ஒப்பிடப்பட்டு நம் முன் வைக்கப்படும் போது பிரமிக்கிறோம்.
அடுத்த அத்தியாயங்களையும் பார்த்து விட்டால் இந்த நூல் பற்றி முழுவதுமாக அறிந்து கொண்டவர்களாவோம்.
