LOCKS ARE NEVER BE MANUFACTURED WITHOUT KEYS.
SIMILARLY GOD NEVER GIVES A PROBLEM WITHOUT
SOLUTIONS.
WE NEED TO HAVE PATIENCE TO UNLOCK THEM.

/ December 11, 2020Lock comes with a key! This is a basic fact of life. Every problem in life has a range of solutions- except in mathematics. There is perhaps never a perfect solution, as every solution invented by man is found defective subsequently. This is the genesis of all reform movements and revolutions!
True intelligence is problem solving- ie finding the right key. But in real life, intelligence is employed in complicating the problem- that is what all professions do. This is especially so in the field of economics- the study of man in the ordinary business of life. Look at world economies- in spite of all the acclaimed ‘development’ fully 20% of world population is below the poverty line, in whatever manner we may define it. There is poverty even in the US! What are our economists – whose Nobel Memorial Laureates are by the truckload- doing? They do not even understand the problem- leave alone finding a solution!
My Economics professor in the college ( respected V.Tyagarajan) used to say (60 years ago) that the answer to a question is in the question itself! ie every lock comes with its key! The key to the answer is in correctly understanding the question, ie identifying the problem.
This is where economists have failed. They are so busy refining and refining the question, one feels that the questions fascinate them more than the solution. More than that, this is a defect in the so called science of economics itself. Lord John Maynard Keynes, the greatest economist of the last century famously said:
“The theory of economics does not furnish a body of settled conclusions immediately applicable to policy. It is a method, rather than a doctrine. An apparatus of the mind, a technique of thinking, which helps its possessors to draw correct conclusions.”
So, the solution to the problem of poverty has to be found outside the discipline of economics. We can say here that the problem ( lock) is man made, and the solution is breaking the lock! Gandhiji found the solution- he said to give employment to people, give them work. But our governments measure things by some numbers and indices, and in the process, man himself becomes a number- piece of statistics. Our present government only recognises us by some number-be it Aadhaar, mobile phone etc, as if life is a combination lock!
Yes sir, every lock comes with its key. But like Mulla Nasrudddin, we have lost it and are searching for it in the wrong place!
