Is there any criteria to find out what class a verb belongs to?

Yes. There is; but it wont help you. The best way to learn is to practise it; listening to Tamil speaker.

So it is not just Seven Classes. There are sub divisions in Class 1, Class 5 verbs. And in addition , there are irregular verbs!!!
