What is Imperative?

It is a command or a request.

We always use it with a person or persons in front of us.

If it is a child or a servant or someone younger to you  in age or status, you just use the verb root.

Do செய், Come வா, Go போ, Sit உட்கார், Eat சாப்பிடு, Read படி.

If it is more than one person you use plural by adding Ungal /உங்கள் suffix.

Even if it is one person you are addressing, you may give respect by adding உங்கள்

When you add , you have to follow morphophonemic rules.

What is it? You insert certain letter or you drop certain letter and then add உங்கள்/ungal

Come வா, Go போ are irregular verbs; that means they don’t follow the rues. You simply learn it from teacher or book

Vaarungal வா- வாருங்கள் – vaarungal  (spoke form வாங்க Vaanga)

Pongal போ – போங்கள் – Pongal (spoken form போங்க Ponga)

Seyyungal) செய்- செய்ய் + உங்கள் = செய்யுங்கள் (look at YYய்ய்)

Sollungal சொல்- சொல்ல் + உங்கள் = சொல்லுங்கள்  (look at LLல்ல்)

Padiyungal படி – படி ய் + உங்கள் = படியு ங்கள் (look at only one Y ய்)

Padungal படு +உங்கள் = படுங்கள் (look at Uஉ; it is dropped)

Saappitungal சாப்பிடு + உங்கள் = சாப்பிடுங்கள் (look at Uஉ; it is dropped)

There are certain rules for it and they are known as Morphophonemic rules.

I will give the rules in another lesson.

Tomorrow we will see Imperative Negative.
