Sri Narendra Modi , Prime Minister of India has asked every Indian to light candles or lamps at home on Sunday the Fifth April, 2020 to express solidarity with the Anti Corona Virus measures taken by the governments and individuals.

Earlier he asked people to clap hands to express thanks to doctors and nurses. Now many countries including Britain are doing it. Yesterday all the British families joined in the clapping for the second time. It is decided that every week every British would do it. Even the TV channels stopped the broadcasts at that that time.

Some of you may wonder why Modiji is asking us to do it. There are two things.

All political leaders ask their followers to do something in uniformity. Mahatma Gandhiji sang Raghupati Ragava Raja Ram during freedom movement , Netaji raised the slogan Jai Hind, Bhankim Chnadra Chatterji made us to say Vandemataram and now millions of RSS workers say Bharat Mata ki Jai in their daily gatherings/shakas. Religious devotees have their own slogans.

Even the squirrel did contribute tiny pebbles in the Bridge work leading to Sri Lanka according to Ramayana.

Secondly there are some rituals which have their magical effects. For instance, ringing the bells dispel bad waves or vibrations. Clapping the hands drive awa y  snakes and ghosts.  Above all when you believe in certain rituals they boost your confidence. Once your confidence is boosted you get more resistance power to mental and physical sicknesses. Articles about placebo effect and thought power appear periodically  in Science magazines supporting this.

I remember one incident that happened in the recent times. Immediately after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister of India, thugs led by Congress party leaders killed 3000 children, women and elders of Sikh Community. When the bad news reached Kanchi Shankaracharya Sri Chandra Sekhara Indra Sarasvati (1894-1994) he asked his devotees light 3000 lamps in the temples what are called Moksha Deepas. Though the dead 3000 are not Hindus it was done for the good of the departed souls. Now thousands and thousands are dying, most of them Christians and Muslims and their spirits, ghosts will be around the earth. To show them the right path (Light Path)  it is good to light the lamps and candles.

If you beat your pet dog and throw it out of your doors still it will come around your house wagging its tail to show gratitude because you fed it for years. In the same way dead persons spirits wont leave its surroundings for at least 12 days. When proper ceremonies are done it leaves the earth. Until then it is roaming around your house in darkness. Then it is shown a tunnel of light and passes through it according to Hindu scriptures. So to send the departed souls (in Italy, Spain, Iran and America, China where one city alone lost 48,000 people) to their destination and to purify the atmosphere around earth it is necessary to light the lamps similar to Kanchi Parmacharyas 3000 oil lamps.

I think Modi is getting some Tantrik and Mantrik advice from some saints. Being a Prime Minister of a ‘secular’ country he cant say all these things openly.

Whether you believe in Ghost Free Earth or not, you can always express solidarity with the Anti Corona measures and thanks giving measures to Heath officials initiated by the government.

The least you can do is not to oppose such harmless activities and support whoever does it. Just be an observer if you don’t want to be participant. Be a ‘sarva bhuta hite ratha:’ (Bhagavad Gita)

Loka samastha sukino bhavantu.

  1. Clapping hands comes easily, naturally to Hindus and Christians. Likewise, lighting lamp or candle has religious significance for both HIndus and Christians. Now in India, Churches have also started lighting lamps. Christians [Catholics] observe an All Souls’ Day when they pray for departed souls. So there should be no difficulty for Hindus and Christians to join together in these measures for the welfare of the whole world.
The Muslims are different, and difficult. They would not cooperate.
Sound of the bell has significant role in Buddhism, and modern Feng Shui.
More than the external aspects, we should consider the occult effect if millions and millions of people join together for a single purpose in a single act. Mahatma Gandhi destroyed the unity of India ( despite his Ram Nam) by advocating linguistic states thereby erecting narrow linguistic walls. Administrative unity has been destroyed. Even political unity is absent since no single party can hope to come to power in all the states. Regional parties with no national aim or focus have realised their bargain and marginal value and have become king makers. In the circumstances, symbolic gestures like clapping of hands and lighting lamps would generate tremendous emotional bond.
There are two disturbing aspects. One is that Muslims cannot be counted in. In fact, the latest spurt in Corona cases in India is entirely or mainly due to Muslim activity. Second, Modi does not have a grip over the states. His ministerial team is a non-performing asset. His civil servants are masters of inactivity. Health, civic administration and police are in the hands of the States where they are slack or whimsical in enforcing shutdown. The civil service, which even Nehru noted was neither civil nor a service, is totally unintelligent and unimaginative in dealing with the situation and devising suitable measures at the state level.. These entities do not know how Britain ordered its affairs through the 6 years of the World War through blood, sweat, toil and tears., meeting all the shortages and hardships without a complaint. Indians are complaining about simple restraint measures meant for their own safety and survival. Our newspapers are also highlighting silly things.
This Corona epidemic is perhaps the greatest public threat, after the Chinese Invasion of 1962 and to think that this too is an invasion from China! But all India is not united in facing it. It leads one to think that Indians got their freedom cheap and without a sweat. May be they can only understand the force of a 1975 type Emergency, in the absence of self-discipline..
Corona cases have galloped in the last 2-3 days,[ with about 19 new hot-spots identified] and more determined measures and stricter enforcement are necessary.
