The nine-day ‘Adhika Masam Brahmotsavam’ held once in three years began at the shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, on Saturday the 19th September. The ‘brahmotsavam’ began with the hoisting of the ‘Garuda’ flag atop the golden ‘dwajathambham’.

Because of ‘Adhika Masam’ (an extra month which makes it 13 months this year) in the traditional Hindu Lunar calendar, two ‘Brahmotsavams’ of nine days each are being conducted this year, at TIRUPATI- TIRUMALA .

The regular ‘Navaratri Brahmotsavam’ would commence On October 16 this year.

Purushottam Maas or the extra lunar month occurs after every 32 months, to adjust the gap between Solar and Lunar Year.

ACCORDING TO a REPORT IN HINDUSTAN TIMES NEWSPAER

Sanskrit schools in Uttar Pradesh are in trouble. Of the 958 Sanskrit schools offering the subject from classes 6 to 12, 117 of them do not have a single teacher left, while 58 government-aided Sanskrit-medium secondary schools have already closed down due to a shortage of teachers. Reason for the shortage: recruitment of Sanskrit teachers has been stuck in bureaucratic limbo for the past three decades.

State secondary education minister and deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma said, “We are aware of the acute shortage of teachers in Sanskrit schools of the state. We are in the process of appointing retired Sanskrit teachers in the most-affected schools for the time being and have also decided to fill up the vacant posts on a priority.

Priests from Gangotri shrine in Uttarakhand – one of the Char Dhams – ended their agitation against the formation of the Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board on Sunday after holding talks with the district administration and a delegation from the board.

The priests will be submitting a list of their demands/suggestions to the state government within a week.

Mayur Dixit, district magistrate Uttarkashi said, “The priests have agreed to end their protest. We have asked the priest community to give their suggestions and problems with the Char Dham Board in writing within a week. This will further be sent to the officials of the Board.”

The court ruled that the ownership of the temple properties would vest in Char Dham shrines and power of the Board would be confined only to the administration and management of the properties.

ORDINANCE TO STOP LOVE JIHADS

The UTTAR PRADESH  government is likely to promulgate an ordinance against religious conversions soon in the wake of the sudden spate in incidents of ‘love jihad’ in the state. In the recent past, Kanpur has witnessed a series of such cases during a fortnight, forcing the Yogi Adityanath government to set up a special investigation team (SIT) headed by a district police official (CO) Vikas Pandey to probe into at least 14 cases wherein Muslim men have concealed their religious identity to lure Hindu girls.

At present, eight states have anti-conversion laws — Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, MP, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand. “UTTAR PRADESH  could soon become the ninth state,” said a law department source.

Taking into account a series of cases of love jihad in different parts of the state, recently, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had also raised the issue of religious conversion during his two-day visit to state capital Lucknow.
