Centre grants Rs 55 crore aid for Simhachalam temple development in Andhra Pradesh

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 55 crore for the development of Simhachalam temple under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD), ANDHRA PRADESH Minister for Tourism Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said on Friday. A Central team led by Under Secretary SS Varma arrived IN VISHAKAPATNAM on Friday to review PRASAD scheme proposals.

Speaking to media persons after a meeting with the Central team, the minister said they had sent proposals worth Rs 70 crore for the development of the temple as part of the temple tourism scheme and owing to the pandemic, there was a delay in approval. He said the plan to construct an underpass was shelved following suggestion of the Chinna Jear Swamy that it will be in violation of ‘Agama Sastra’. Hence, it has been decided to revive the steps route from Madhavadhara to Simhahachalam.

As part of the development of temple pushkarini for the convenience of devotees, a bathing ghat and changing rooms will be constructed. A queue complex on the model of Tirumala with a capacity of 2,000 people will be constructed atop Simhachalam.

A hall with all amenities for devotees will be constructed at the foothill. A walking track will be laid around the Simhachalam hill for the convenience of people who undertake circumambulation (giri pradakshina) on the occasion of Giri Pournami every year.

On Giri Pournami, thousands of people undertake a 32-km trek (pradakshina)

Union Tourism Under Secretary SS Varma said they will submit a report within 10 days. Earlier, the team led by Varma visited Simhachalam temple.

Miscreants attack Hindu temples in Bangladesh

Miscreants attacked at least four Hindu temples, some shops and households belonging to the minority community in Bangladesh’s Khulna district, prompting police to arrest ten people and beef up security in the area, according to a media report.

The incident took place on Saturday LAST WEEK in Shiali village in Rupsha Upazila following a heated altercation between Hindu and Muslim residents on Friday night, the Dhaka Tribune NEWSPAPER  reported.

According to local residents and victims, the miscreants first attacked the Shiali Mahasmashan temple.

They vandalised the idols in the temple and the crematorium.

From there, they went to the Shiali Purbapara area, where they vandalised the idols of Hindu gods and goddesses in Hari Mandir, Durga Mandir and the Govinda Mandir, the report said.

Six shops and two homes of the local Hindu community members were also vandalised, it said.

Krishna Gopal Sen, general secretary of Rupsha Upazila Puja Udjapan Parishad, said that at least 10 idols at four temples were vandalised during the attacks.

The Hindus were going towards the temple while singing kirtan during the Esha prayers, one of the five mandatory Islamic prayers, which led to the scuffle, said the local mosque’s Imam Maulana Nazim Uddin.

8-yr-old Hindu boy becomes youngest person charged with blasphemy in Pak

An eight-year-old Hindu boy is being held in protective police custody in Pakistan after becoming the youngest person ever to be charged with blasphemy in the country, a media report said on Monday.

According to the Guardian news report, the boy’s family is in hiding and many of the Hindu community in the conservative district of Rahim Yar Khan in Punjab province, have fled their homes after a Muslim crowd attacked a Hindu temple after the boy’s release on bail last week.

On August 7, 20 people were arrested in connection with the temple attack.

The boy is accused of intentionally urinating on a carpet in the library of a madrassa, where religious books were kept, last month.

Speaking from an undisclosed location, a member of the boy’s family told the Guardian: “He (the boy) is not even aware of such blasphemy issues, and he has been falsely indulged in these matters. He still doesn’t understand what his crime was and why he was kept in jail for a week.

“We have left our shops and work, the entire community is scared and we fear backlash. We don’t want to return to this area. Blasphemy charges filed against a child have shocked even legal experts in Pakistan.

77-year-old pontiff of the Madurai Aadheenam no more

The 77-year-old pontiff of the Madurai Aadheenam, Arunagirinatha Gnanasambantha Desika Paramacharya Swamigal, breathed his last at a private hospital IN MADURAI  on Friday. He was undergoing treatment for respiratory illness.

The Madurai Adheenam, considered one of the oldest Saivite adheenams (Hindu monastery) in the State, is said to have been established more than a millennium ago and rejuvenated by Thirugnana Sambandar, one of the Nayanmars.

The pontiff was a native of Sirkazhi and joined the Dharmapuram Aadheenam as a disciple soon after his schooling. Since 1980, Arunagirinatha Swamigal, who was formerly a journalist with the DMK’s mouthpiece ‘Murasoli’, has been serving as the 292nd pontiff of the Madurai Aadheenam, which is the hereditary trustee of three temples in Thanjavur district.

With fugitive godman Nithyananda staking his claim as the successor of Arunagirinathar, the chambers of the Madurai Aadheenam, located near the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, were sealed late on Thursday night by the pontiff of the Dharmapuram Aadheenam, Masilamani Swamigal from Mayiladuthurai.
