Love and affection are sung by poets around the world; even Tiru Valluvar says in one or more couplets here the wise say, the learned say etc which shows he has read many such works. The very first couplet is unique and his original. All the famous poets of the world have sung about love between a young man and a young woman; very few have sung about love and affection in the mankind- the universal brotherhood, friendship. Tiru Valluvar is the every few of such kind.

The very first Kural 71 has a Sanskrit word Thaaz/bolt.

This couplet would remind all Hindus the stories of Adi Sankara and Muthu Swami Dikshitar. Adi Sankara was so moved when a woman could not find anything but a gooseberry in the pickle’s jar when he begged for food at her door. Immediately he prayed to Goddess and she poured rain of golden gooseberries (Amalaka in Sanskrit, Nellikkay in Tamil).

When Muthuswamy Dikshitar, one of the Music Trinity, saw Ettayapuram  area without water, he sang Amritavarshni Raga in a prayer and God showered rain at once.

When he says even bones in Kural 72, immediately one will remember the great sacrifice of Dadhichi Rishi

Dadhichi Rishi is a revered Vedic sage in Hindu mythology celebrated for his supreme self-sacrifice. He voluntarily gave up his life, offering his own bones so the gods could forge the Vajra (a powerful weapon) to defeat the demon Vritrasura and restore peace to the universe. Vritra Asura was a Brahmin demon.

In these stories we see selfless love. Other poets sang about love of flesh, not soul. Devotional poets sang about love between God and Human beings.
