In the following five couplets Tiru Valluvar advised all to be humble and speak softly, gently and pleasantly; we see the same advice from Vedas to modern day Tamil poet Bharati.

Valluvar used Sanskrit word Mukham is used in two of the following couplets.

Vinaya is humility. We have Sanskrit sayings

  Vidya vinayena shobhate: “Knowledge is adorned by humility.” This popular proverb highlights that learning is only beneficial when tempered with a modest character.

  Namanti phalino vriksha namanti gunino janaah: “Trees laden with fruit bend low; similarly, virtuous people bow with humility.” This classic verse (from the Subhashitaratnabhandagara) illustrates that greatness and humbleness go hand-in-hand

Humility makes one to see all with kindness says Bhagavad Gita 5-18:

विद्याविनयसम्पन्ने ब्राह्मणे गवि हस्तिनि ।

श‍ुनि चैव श्वपाके च पण्डिता: समदर्शिन: ॥ 5-18 ॥

vidyā-vinaya-sampanne

brāhmaṇe gavi hastini

śuni caiva śva-pāke ca

paṇḍitāḥ sama-darśinaḥ- 5-18

The humble sages, by virtue of true knowledge, see with equal vision a learned and gentle brāhmaṇa, a cow, an elephant, a dog and a dog-eater [outcaste].

Great men think alike!

Krishna washed the feet of poor Sudama; Christ also followed Krishna.

Jesus washing feet of desciples; he followed what Hindus did.
