Points to be noted

The most famous command of Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita is UTHTHSTA! YASO LABHA!!= Arise! Attain Fame!

Also we are reminded of Swami Vivekananda’s famous command from the Upanshad: ARISE! AWAKE! STOP NOT TILL THE GOAL IS REACHED!

Probably Valluvar had Bhagavad Gita  in his mind when he gave the title Pukaz= Fame, Glory, Reputation, Renown.

तस्मात्त्वमुत्तिष्ठ यशो लभस्व
जित्वा शत्रून्भुङ् क्ष्व राज्यं समृद्धम्
मयैवैते निहतापूर्वमेव
निमित्तमात्रं भव सव्यसाचिन्  11-33

tasmāt tvam uttiṣhṭha yaśho labhasva
jitvā śhatrūn bhuṅkṣhva rājyaṁ samṛiddham
mayaivaite nihatāḥ pūrvam eva
nimitta-mātraṁ bhava savya-sāchin

BG 11.33: Therefore, arise and attain fame/glory! Conquer your foes and enjoy prosperous rulership. These warriors stand already slain by Me, and you will only be an instrument of My work, O expert archer. (Compare it with Kural 236)

**

Isai (fame, glory) is linked to Yasas (fame) in Sanskrit; once again I emphasize that both languages came from one source (Lord Shiva); we have a word Yaso dhanam ( Fame Wealth) in Sanskrit literature.

The word Isai/Yasas is used in 4 Kurals.  Other Sanskrit words in this chapter are- Lokam (Ulakam) in two couplets ; also Viththakar in 235.

**

Kural 236 is the most popular and most quoted one; but look at the translations from five scholars! Even the title Pukaz in Tamil has four different words here!

Amazing are the different translations!
