Purananuru wonders-65; Tamil Encyclopaedia 105, One Thousand Interesting Facts -Part 105
Sirupaanaatruppadai wonders continued from yesterday.
Vellore Etymology (Dream of Muruga Mystery) and Bhima’s Cooking , Laughing Ghosts, Tamil Atrocities etc Explained (from U Ve Sa Iyer Book)
What is Siru Paan Aatruppadai?
Siru=small
Paan =bard, minstrel, singer
Aatruppadai = Guiding towards a donor/patron/chieftain/king
Greatest of the Tamil scholars Dr U VE SA.Iyer says
It may be about a person carrying a small-size lute/lyre in contrast to Perum (big size) Paan (bard) Aaatruppadai (Guide)
Or
It may be this Sirupan aattrupadai is smaller in size with less lines whereas Perum Panaatrupadai is bigger in size with more lines.
Both may be correct.

Item 904 -Tamil Atrocities and Tamil Murders
SIRU PANATRUPPADAI (siru paan aatruppadai); it is one of the ten idylls (Paththup Paattu), part of Tamil Sangam Literature that is 2000 years old- wonders continued………………..
Tamils are the one who fought among themselves for over 1500 years continuously until Sundara Pandyan invited Muslim invaders into Tamil Nadu. For 1500 years Tamils killed Tamils and wrote about it in Sanagm poems as the most heroic acts. In other parts of the world also we see killings nothing but killings, but it was not among their own community. Except Moghuls /Muslims, we don’t see it as a continuous act of killing their own brothers. But Tamils continued murders for 1500 years. It must be entered into Book of Records. DRAVIDIAN E VE RAMASWAMI NAICKER CALLED TAMIL A BARBARIAN LANGUAGE BECAUSE OF THIS.
Here we came across Seven Great Philanthropists called Kadai Ezu Vallal in Tamil. Two of them were Kaari and Ori.
The atrocity is Kaari killed Kollimalai ruler Ori and donated the lands! And yet this murder is
praised by Tamils. The war between them is sung in Akam.209, Narrinai 320 and here in lines 110/111

Item 905- names of the Horses
We come across animal names from Vedic days. Whole world followed Hindus and named their pets. Millions of houses have dogs and cats as pets with favourite names. We know from Mahabharata and Bhagavata Purana that two names of elephants as Asvathama and Kuvalayaapeedam. Alexander named his horse Bucephalus. Tamils named a dog Kovilan and inscribed it on Hero Stone (Nadu Kal). Here in this poem both KAARI and ORI are names of the horses owned by them! Rig Veda has the oldest Dog name in the world- Sarameyas!

He compared five more plants with five different things and continued. And described Aamur of Nalliyakodan, where Brahmins live. Item 907- flesh eating, laughing Ghosts!
While describing Nalliakodan’s town poet gives us gory scenes. Vaidehi Herbert’s translation of lines 196-202
Splendour of Nalliyakodan’s Town
Appearing like a corpse-eating, laughing
female ghoul with bright, blood-stained
teeth, that wears goats as earrings, has a
slanted, flame-like tongue and forked legs,
are elephants with blood-stained huge nails
on their feet that have kicked corpses.
Their musth flows down their cheeks and
mixes with the fine dust on the streets of
Nalliyakōdan’s ancient town with festivals.
It is not very far. It is nearby.

Item 908- Visa free travel- Ticket free Entry
Throughout Tamil and Sanskrit literature, we see one unique feature. Ascetics, Brahmins, messengers and poets are given immediate audience. Here also poet says the palace gates are always open for poets, bards and Brahmins
The poet praised the brahmins as one who has rare Vedas in their tongue. It makes clear that Anthanar is Brahmin.

Item 909- Bhima of Mahabharata, a great Cheff!
he will give you clothing to wear
made from peels of faultless bamboo
and liquor that will give you rise like
a cobra in rage that raises its hood.
He will serve you many different foods
that have been created using a cookbook
written by Bheeman with a chest like
that of the snow-covered Himalayas,
older brother of Arjunan who wears a
breast cloth with flower designs,
and has a quiver which contains the arrow
that he used to burn the Kāndavam forest,
at the request of the fire god.
Earlier we saw the poet comparing two Lankas, showing his knowledge in Ramayana. Here he mentioned Bhima’s skill in cooking. Arjuna’s burning of Khandava forest is also mentioned. It shows Tamils were well versed in both the epics which is confirmed by hundreds of references to Puranic stories in Sangam poems. This gives a severe blow to those who tried to portray Tamils as a different community. Sangam literature portrays them as ardent Hindus.

Item 910- Lines 172-173
U Ve Sa Iyer book on Paththup Paattu (Ten Idylls) gives some interesting information about Nalliakkodan’s dream of Lord Muruga which led him to victory. And this is the true etymology of Velur (Vel+oor= Spear Town)
That are as piercing as sharp pointed spears
Approaching Velur thou wilt find tank
Whose blossoms pointed like spear once served
As conquering spears and won a victory great ( J V Chelliah’s translation, year 1946)
He has translated Nacchinarkiniyar’s Commentary (page 166, U Ve Saminatha Iyer Book)
NALLIAKKODAN WAS TOLD IN A DREAM BY LORD MURUGA THAT HE COULD CONQER HIS ENEMIES BY THROWING THE FLOWERS OF A CERATIN POND AT HIS ENEMIES. HE DID SO, AND THE FLOWERS CHANGING INTO SPEARS HELPED HIM TO DEFEAT HIS FOES .
(This is the reason the town is called Velur (modern spelling Vellore)
திறல் வேல் நுதியின் பூத்த கேணி
விறல் வேல் வென்றி வேலூர் எய்தின், (172-173)
