Kerala High Court asks govt to return Rs 10 crore it got from Guruvayur temple for flood relief

The Kerala High Court on Friday ordered the state government to return Rs 10 crore it had received from the Guruvayur Devasom Board towards the CM’s relief fund. In the order the court said the temple fund was meant to develop the shrine and its allied services and it was not proper to divert it for other reasons.

A devotee N Nagesh had approached the court saying that the presiding deity was the sole proprietor of the temple fund and the board has no right to divert the shrine fund. The temple board had contributed Rs 10 crore to the CM’s relief fund after two consecutive floods in the state, 2018 and 2019. Earlier, a single bench of the High Court had asked the government to return the money but the government approached a division bench which also upheld the single bench verdict.

In May this year, Guruvayur Devasom Board chairman K B Mohandas had handed over the fund to the Thrissur district collector saying the contribution was part of the temple’s social responsibility. Many Hindu bodies had decried the decision saying it was unlawful. But the board justified its decision saying it was done earlier also.

“Matters such as contributions towards disaster relief fund do not fall under the preview of the Devasom Board. It can protect the temple wealth but has no right to pass it on to someone else,” the court said in its order. Many organisations including the Hindu Aikya Vedi lauded the verdict.

Sports Ministry formally recognises Yogaasana as competitive sport

The Sports Ministry on Thursday formally recognised yogasana as a competitive sport, which will enable the ancient practice to avail government funding.

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and Minister of AYUSH (Ayurveda Yoga and Naturopathy Unani Sidda Homoeopathy) Shripad Yesso Naik formally promoted Yogasana as a competitive sport during an event here.

The move was made to encourage yoga, spread awareness about its benefits and to help improve physical and mental wellbeing of the people.

India has also recently established the National Yogasana Sport Federation of India (NYSFI) for preservation and development of yoga as a competitive sport.

“Yogasana as a competitive sport can develop an interest in yoga among people across the world. The Fit India Movement initiated by the Indian Government has gained impetus and the Government has promoted yoga as a healthy practice to stay fit. Since the inception of International Yoga Day, the growth prospect for Yoga has been immense,” says NYSFI on its website.

South Korean and three more arrested under anti-conversion law

Four persons, including a foreign national, were arrested Saturday for allegedly pressurising two families in Greater Noida for religious conversion. According to the police, the four suspects had allegedly been visiting the two families for the last six months and supporting them financially, and recently, had started pressuring them for conversion.

Pradeep Tripathi, station house officer Surajpur police station, said that the prime accused, Mu Cu Lee, 50, belongs to Seoul in South Korea and is allegedly involved in missionary activities in Greater Noida. “The woman had been visiting India for some years and getting people to convert after luring them with financial benefits. She is associated with some missionary organisation. She had already converted three people .

Tripathi said that while Lee lived in a high-rise society in Sector Beta 2 area, the three lived in a rented accommodation in Malakpur village in Surajpur.

“She was providing rations and other assistance to the two families, since they were poor. She was also asking them to visit Church on Sundays,” he said.

Fugitive godman Nithyananda announces visa, flights to his ‘country’ Kailasa from Australia

Over a year after he allegedly founded his own ‘Hindu sovereign nation’ called Kailasa, fugitive self-styled godman Nithyananda has now begun issuing special 3-day visas for tourists. To visit the mysterious island nation, Kailasa visa-holders will have to travel from Australia aboard a newly launched private chartered flight service ‘Garuda’, Nithyananda announced in a recent video.

The controversial ‘godman’, who fled India to escape arrest in a rape trial in 2019, urged visitors to stay in the ‘country’ for not more than three days, during which they will be allowed one ‘Darshan’ of ‘Param Shiva’.

“Today, you can start applying for Kailasa visa. You have to reach Australia on your own. From Australia, Kailasa has its own chartered flight services,” he said in a video streamed from his official Facebook page. “Please do not ask for more than a 3-day visa. Kailaasa can accommodate anyone only for three days for now.

The godman said that all visitors will be provided with free food and accommodation during the course of their stay. While travellers will have to make their own arrangements to arrive in Australia, airfare to and from Kailasa will be covered by Nithyananda’s organisation, he added.

Gujarat Police announced last year that he had escaped from the country after failing to appear in more than 50 hearings.

Even as Indian authorities continued their manhunt to nab him, Nithyananda allegedly founded the ‘nation’ last year. There is much speculation about whether Kailaasa is in fact, a real nation with physical territory.

Prime Minister Modi visits Gurudwara and pays tributes to Guru Teg Bahadur for his supreme sacrifice

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tributes to Guru Teg Bahadur for his supreme sacrifice as he went to Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in Delhi in an unscheduled visit. There were no security arrangements or traffic barriers to the common man during the visit, officials said.

PM Modi had also paid tributes to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on his Shaheedi Diwas in a tweet on Saturday. “Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life epitomised courage and compassion. On his Shaheedi Diwas, I bow to the great Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and recall his vision for a just and inclusive society.”

Guru Tegh Bahadur was the ninth of 10 Gurus of the Sikh religion and was the youngest son of Guru Hargobind. He was born in Amritsar in 1621.

There are several accounts explaining the motive behind the assassination of Guru Tegh Bahadur on Aurangzeb’s orders. Sikh tradition states that the guru stood up for the rights of Kashmiri Pandits who approached him to intercede on their behalf with the emperor and ask him to revoke a recently imposed jizya (tax)[9] and was publicly killed in 1675 on the orders of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Delhi .

TTD forms panel to establish Anjanadri at Tirupati as Hanuman’s birthplace

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams has formed a committee of religious scholars, experts of Hindu scriptures to establish Anjanadri, one of the seven sacred hills of the Seshachalam range at Tirupati, as the birthplace of Lord Hanuman.

Janmabhoomi Teertha   kshetra Trust was reportedly constituted in Karnataka in February this year with the aim of developing Anjanadri-Kishkinda, at Hampi in Bellary district, as Hanuman’s provenance.

The trust also announced plans to install the “world’s tallest statue” of Hanuman there, on the lines of but a bit shorter than the Ram statue conceived at Ayodhya by the Yogi Adityanath government.

Last month, the Uddhav Thackeray government in Maharashtra decided to develop the Anjaneri hills, near Nashik-Trimbakeshwar, as Hanuman’s birthplace.
