Madhya Pradesh govt’s bill against forced conversions exempts re-conversions

The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on Saturday approved a proposed law to regulate inter-faith marriages in the state that provides for 10 year jail for ‘forcing’ women, minors, and people from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe to undergo religious conversion, while exempting reconversion to parental religion from its purview.

The proposed law called the Madhya Pradesh Dharmik Swatantrata (Freedom of Religion) Bill 2020 says “Under this legislation, re-conversion to the ancestral religion will not be treated as conversion,” said the draft law, defining ancestral religion as the religion of the father of the person at the time of his birth.

Giving the reason for this clause, Madhya Pradesh home minister, Narottam Mishra, said re-conversion will not be a punishable offence under this law because it is more a realisation of a mistake than a crime.

The proposed legislation will replace the 1968 Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, and is more stringent than the similar law enforced by the Uttar Pradesh government through an Ordinance.

SABARIMALA TEMPLE WILL BE OPNED ON 30 DECEMBER  FOR MAKARAVILAKKU

Devotees planning to visit the hill shrine of Lord Ayyappa in Sabarimala of Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district will have to carry a certificate declaring them free of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), which manages the temple, has said.

Chakra snaanam held in Ekaantam on Dwaadasi in Tirupati

On the auspicious occasion of Vaikuntha Dwadasi, Chakra snaanam was performed in ekaantam to Sri Sudarshana Chakrattaalwaar in the sacred waters of Swamy Pushkarini in Tirumala on Saturday.

For the first time in nine months, Sudarshana Chakrattaalwaar was being rendered holy Chakrasnanam in the temple tank waters.

It may be recalled that the TTD had closed the Pushkarini activities early in March this year, following Covid-19 restrictions. Even during the annual Navaratri Brahmotsavams, TTD observed Chakra  snaanam in a makeshift tank inside the temple. Speaking on this occasion, TTD Chairman YV Subba Reddy said this celestial fete is usually performed four times in a year, during Brahmotsavams, Radhasapthami, Ananta Padmanabha Vratam and Vaikuntha Dwadasi. “Almost after nine months, we performed Chakrasnanam in Pushkarini, but in ekaantam,” he observed.

In the meantime,

TTD Chairman Y.V. Subba Reddy said, the TTD board had decided to provide a ten-day long Vaikunta dwara darshan to devotees this year after prolonged consultations with Jeeyar Swamijis, Agama advisors and pontiffs of various Mutts across the country.

He recalled that after the lockdown and as per Covid-19- guidelines, the TTD had resumed Srivari Darshan to 5,000 devotees every day from June 8. “In a phased manner, it has been enhanced to 35,000 devotees”, he said.

Pakistan government grants permission for construction of Hindu temple in Islamabad

Pakistan government has granted permission for the construction of a Hindu temple in Islamabad, nearly six months after the work at the site was stopped apparently because of the pressure from the radical Islamic groups.

As per plans, the Krishna temple will come up in a 20,000 sq ft plot in the capital’s H-9 administrative division.

Earlier, some hardline clerics had warned the government not to allow the construction of the temple in Islamabad.

In October, a council, which advises the government on religious issues, said that there are no constitutional or Sharia restrictions on the construction of a temple in Islamabad or any other part of the country.

The decision, signed by 14 Council members, added that Hindus, like all other religious groups in the country, have the constitutional right to a place for last rites according to their faith.

The plot for the first Hindu temple in Islamabad was allotted to the Hindu Panchayat by the CDA in 2017.

However, the construction work was delayed due to some formalities, including the approval of the site map and documents from the CDA and other relevant authorities.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had allotted the land for the temple.

The temple complex will also have a cremation site, apart from the space for separate structures for other religious rites.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) issued a notification in Lahore on Monday, giving permission for the construction of the boundary wall for cremation ground for the Hindu community in Islamabad.

Hindus form the biggest minority community in Pakistan.

According to official estimates, 75 lakh Hindus live in Pakistan.

However, according to the community, over 90 lakh Hindus are living in the country.
