BJP opposes use of shoes to ‘decorate’ Durga puja pandal in Kolkata
The BJP on Saturday objected to the use of shoes for “decorating” a Durga puja pandal in Kolkata, alleging that it would hurt religious sentiments of people.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said in a tweet on Saturday that the organisers have committed a “heinous act” by adorning the pandal wall with shoes, and urged the chief secretary and home secretary to look into the matter.
“A Durga Puja pandal in Dumdum Park has been decorated with shoes. This heinous act of insulting Maa Durga in the name of ‘Artistic liberty’ won’t be tolerated. I urge the Chief & Home Secretary @egiye_bangla to intervene and compel the organizers to remove the shoes before Shashti,” he added.
Echoing him, former Meghalaya governor and veteran BJP leader Tathagata Roy told reporters that “everything cannot be tolerated in the name of artistic freedom. This is a grave insult to goddess Durga and hurts our religious sentiment”.
Organisers of the puja pandal in Dumdum, however, rejected the assertion and said that the shoe installation on the sidewalk leading to the marquee depicts farmers’ movement in the country, and the Durga idol, set up at a considerable distance from it, is surrounded by paddy stacks.

CHRISTIAN PROPAGANDA IN TEMPLE SCREEN; TENSION IN VIJAYAWADA
Devotees expressed ire over campaign of other religion on LED screens set up atop IndrakeeladrI the abode of Godess Kanaka Durga in Vijayawada amidst Dasara celebrations.
The Information and Public Relations Department entrusted the live screening of Dasara celebrations to a local TV channel. The campaign of other religions appeared on the LED screens immediately after the relay of Dasara celebrations on Thursday night.
The enraged devotees damaged one of the LED screens set up near the road on Krishna riverbank.
Meanwhile, the temple authorities filed a complaint with police to inquire into the incident, to make it clear whether the campaign of other religion was intentionally relayed or by mistake.
The Viswa Hindu Parishad leaders met Executive officer D Brahmaramba and submitted a memorandum demanding action on the erring officials. The EO assured them that special attention will be paid to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
Temple authorities said “We came to know from devotees and police that a video, purportedly of an evangelist of Philadelphia AG Church, was played in one of the LED screens. The display was immediately stopped and a complaint was lodged with police. During interrogation, it came to light that it was purely accidental as the operator concerned failed to switch off after the live telecast had ended, and played the channel’s daily program accidentally,” temple EO D Bramaramba said.

NOW NEWS FROM AMERICA
Several US states, including Texas, Florida, New Jersey, Ohio and Massachusetts, have proclaimed October as the Hindu Heritage Month, noting that Hinduism has “contributed greatly” to America through its unique history and heritage. The proclamations came after various Hindu organisations in the US announced the addition of another major festival, an entire month of festivals, in October as the Hindu Heritage Month.
According to the organisers, the celebrations will include cultural programmes, fashion shows, webinars, multi-day conferences, walkathons and more.
According to the president of Hindu University of America, Kalyan Viswanathan, “The Hindu Heritage Month is a great opportunity for the Hindu community to remember our collective journey so far — from the ancient Vedic times, our own golden eras, through the trials and tribulations of conquests and colonisation — and look optimistically forward at the opportunity we have for recovering and rearticulating the Hindu worldview for future generations.”

Temple vandalised in Tamil Nadu reports Hindu Post News Paper
Murtis of Hindu deities were vandalised by anti-Hindu elements in Siruvachur, Tamil Nadu. They were found in a beheaded state with their hands and other parts chopped off. Desecration and demolition of temples and murtis have increased since DMK came to power in May.
Siruvachur Madura Kaliamman temple is one of the prominent temples in TN and the presiding deity is considered to be the Kula Devi of Kanchi Shankaracharya. She is the Kula Devi of lakhs of Hindus across the state as well. Madura Kaliamman temple and other small temples around it are under the control of TNHRCE.
The main deity Madura Kaliamman is believed to reside in the main temple only on Mondays and Fridays. So public darshan is allowed on these 2 days only.
The hillocks behind the temple is where Devi is believed to reside on other days. At the foothills there is a temple for Parivaara Devatas like Aiyyanar, Selliamman, Periyasamy, Karuppasamy and Saptha Kannis. Word is that only men are allowed to visit this temple. When some men went to the temple on Mahalaya Amavasya to worship, to their shock they found the murtis in a decapitated state. Heads, hands and other parts of the murtis were broken by miscreants.
Devotees have lodged a complaint with the police and police are looking into the issue. Such attacks on Hindu temples have increased after the atheist DMK came to power according to Hindu Post Magazine.
