Beautiful Names of Ancient Kashmiri  Women!

Compiled by london swaminathan

Article No 1583; Dated 17th January 2015.

R S Pandit who translated Rajatarangini (River of Kings in Sanskrit) gives this intereting information about Kashmiri women:

“Names of women mentioned by Kalhana (in 12th Century CE)  are still current among the Kashmiri Brahmins both in Kashmir and the plains of India. Some of the names such as Valga, Nona, Silla are of interest.Valga, the favourite of Queen Didda, grand daughter of the Sahi was probably an Aryanised Turk and Silla and Sulia are Iranian names. Among the names of men Daryaka and Toramana are respectively Iranian and Turkish in origin”.
