At 47%, Hinduism biggest gainer in religious conversion in Kerala

While the BJP, in its election manifesto, has promised an Uttar Pradesh model law against forceful religious conversion and ‘love jihad’ in Kerala to woo Hindu and Christian voters, the data sourced by TNIE from the government gazettes paint an altogether different picture.

According to official figures for the year 2020, the biggest gainer – in terms of new converts – was Hinduism. People who embraced Hinduism constituted 47 per cent of religious conversions in Kerala during the one-year period under reference.

Of the total 506 people who registered their change of religion with the government, 241 were those who converted from Christianity or Islam to Hinduism. A total of 144 persons adopted Islam whereas Christianity received 119 new believers in the year, shows the data.

Gyanvapi mosque case: Allahabad HC stays Varanasi court’s order on archaeological survey

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday put a stay on an order passed by a lower court in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi city in April, allowing an archaeological survey of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Gyanvapi Mosque complex, Bar and Bench reported.

Justice Prakash Padia said that the court in Varanasi should not have decided on the matter since certain petitions related to the case were pending before the High Court, Live Law reported.

The Allahabad high court on Thursday stayed proceedings in the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir-Gyanvapi Masjid case in a Varanasi court, effectively suspending a controversial archaeological survey of the premises to determine whether a Hindu temple was partially razed to build the 17th-century mosque.

The court also granted three weeks’ time to the Union and state governments to file their replies on the issue. The mosque abuts the famous Kashi Vishwanath temple and has been embroiled in a decades-old legal dispute.

Hindus & Muslims in India have common ancestors:

RSS chief Bhagwat said

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday said Hindus and Muslims share the same ancestry and every Indian citizen is a “Hindu”.

Speaking at an event here organised by Pune-based Global Strategic Policy Foundation, he said “sane” Muslim leaders should stand firmly against fundamentalists and added the minority community does not have to fear anything in India as Hindus don”t hold enmity towards anyone.

Hindus and Muslims share the same ancestry, Bhagwat said.

“Hindu is not a word that denotes any race, religion or linguistic identity. Hindu is a name given to the rich heritage that strives for upliftment of every living and non-living entity. Hence, for us, every Indian is a Hindu,” he said.

Bhagwat emphasized Muslims don”t have to fear anyone in India as Hindus don”t hold enmity towards anyone and Indians have always been committed to the well-being of all.

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (retd), Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, were among other prominent speakers at the event.

Khan said more diversity leads to a prosperous society and added “Indian culture considers everyone equal.”

The Kerala Governor quoted several ancient scriptures to highlight the all-encompassing nature of Hinduism.

Hindus globally are highly concerned regarding reports of the fifth vandalizing of Swindon Hindu Temple & Cultural Centre in South West England since May; this temple meets the spiritual needs of about 20,000 Hindus of the area.

Reports suggest that the break-in resulted in desecrating of deities, vandalizing of sacred altar and rooms, stealing of cash worth thousands of pounds and artefacts, damaging of doors, etc.; sending the area’s Hindu community into a state of anguish and fear.

Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that it was appalling for the worldwide Hindus to hear about such incidents happening to a Hindu house of worship

Those alleging corruption in Ayodhya land deal should approach court if they have evidence: VHP

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Saturday said those who have accused the Ram temple trust of corruption in the land deal in Ayodhya should go to court if they have evidence to back their claims.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh and former SP MLA from Ayodhya Pawan Pandey had recently alleged that a piece of land worth Rs 2 crore was purchased by the Shriram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in Ayodhya at an inflated price of Rs 18.5 crore.

Dismissing the allegations as ”baseless”, VHP’s joint general secretary Surendra Jain Saturday said the Shriram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust conducted the land deal with ”utmost honesty and transparency”.

”There is no scam in it. If there is anything wrong, why don’t they go to court? They should move the court if they have any evidence,” he told reporters here, lashing out at the Aam Aadmi Party, the Samajwadi Party, the Congress and other opposition parties which have been demanding a probe into the deal. Singh and Pandey had alleged money laundering in the deal, and demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Shriram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust’s general secretary Champat Rai strongly dismissed the allegations, claiming the land was purchased at a price much lower than the prevailing market rate.

AAP Rajya Sabha member Singh told the media last week that he was preparing to take the matter to court.

”We are still waiting for that. Why haven’t they approached the court so far? They should do it. Truth will come out before everybody,” the VHP general secretary said.

Here is the Latest news about Yoga Guru Baba Ram Dev Controversy

Upset over Yoga guru Ramdev’s remarks on allopathy, members of the federation of resident doctors’ associations on Saturday said they will hold a nationwide protest on June 1 and observe it as a ‘black day’.

In a statement, the federation has also sought an “unconditional open public apology” from Ramdev.

A controversy had erupted after he was heard questioning some of the medicines being used to treat the coronavirus infection and saying that “lakhs have died from taking allopathic medicines for COVID-19”.

The remarks were met with vociferous protests, following which Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan asked him to withdraw the “extremely unfortunate” statement.

Later Ramdev  withdrew his statement.

A day later, the yoga guru posed 25 questions to the Indian Medical Association (IMA )in an ‘open letter’ on his Twitter handle, asking if allopathy offered permanent relief for ailments.

Days after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) slammed Ramdev for remarks against allopathy, the yoga guru’s aide Acharya Balkrishna sparked a row claiming that IMA president Dr JA Jayalal was conspiring to convert India to Christianity.

Taking to Twitter, Balkrishna said there is a conspiracy to convert the entire country into Christianity which is why Yoga and Ayurveda are being maligned and targeted.

“As part of the conspiracy to convert the entire country into Christianity, Yoga and Ayurveda are being maligned by targeting @yogrishiramdev jee. Countrymen, wake up now from the deep slumber Folded hands otherwise the generations to come will not forgive you,” Balkrishna said in a tweet.

TTD to produce Anandaiah’s concoction

Even as the authorities temporarily suspended the preparation and distribution of Krishna patnam concoction, touted as a cure for Covid-19, till its efficacy is scientifically established, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Chandragiri MLA and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust board , announced that the TTD would produce and distribute Bonigi Anandaiah’s herbal concoction as an immunity booster which has no side-effects.

The distribution of the Krishnapatnam concoction was indefinitely suspended by the authorities, till its efficacy is scientifically established. A team from AP Ayush Department, led by commissioner V. Ramulu Naik, on Saturday inspected the demonstration of medicine preparation in Krishnapatnam.

Post verification, they stated that Ayush protocols and guidelines did not accept these preparations as Ayurvedic medicines. They also said the preparations were similar to traditional local medicines and there was no need for any licence for this.  Also, the TTD Ayurveda experts, who collected the herbs-spice mix on Saturday, certified that it had no side-effects and was in fact a great immunity booster.

In this regard, Reddy, along with Ayurveda experts of TTD, on Sunday examined the equipment required for the preparation of the medicine, availability of required herbs, stocks and preparation site in the TTD Ayurveda Pharmacy located at Narasingapuram near Chandragiri.

Speaking to the media later, the LA informed that the TTD would scale up the preparation and distribution of the mixture formulated by Anandaiah, if it got approval from the Ayush department, ICMR and any other equivalent research institutes. He also stated that TTD Ayurveda experts had started research on the concoction and an in-depth research should be done at least in four stages.

“According to the information available so far, it has been confirmed that there are no side effects. The TTD has its own state-of-the-art Ayurvedic pharma and it has the capacity to manufacture this concoction on its own. In just 60 days, it is possible to supply it to the entire state,” Reddy said.

Communist Party of India  leader Narayana endorses Anandaiah mixture

CPI national secretary K. Narayana has put his weight behind the Ayurveda mixture that is claimed to work against Covid-19 of B. Anandaiah of Krishnapatnam and slammed those talking negatively against it.

Narayana said Ayurveda and home remedies are time-tested and part of the traditions here. Allopathy came later. He himself is a qualified allopathy doctor. “Lack of patronage led the Indian medicine systems to take the back-seat,” he said

The CPI leader suspected the role of corporate entities behind the campaign against the Anandaiah mixture. He urged the government to depute Ayurveda experts to Krishnapatnam and ensure its distribution under their supervision.

Madhya Pradesh: Video shows woman doctor propagating religion during government’s COVID-19 campaign

A controversy has erupted after a woman doctor, hired on contract by the Madhya Pradesh government, was captured in a video purportedly asking people to offer prayers to the god of a particular religion for staying away from coronavirus infection or for recovery from the disease.

The incident occurred in Bajna village of Ratlam district on Saturday.

Talking to PTI on Sunday, tehsildar B S Thakur said the administration has received a complaint that the woman, a government contract doctor, was propagating Christianity during the ‘Kill Corona’ campaign (to curb the pandemic) in Bajna.

Religious pamphlets were also found with the woman, he said.

Thakur said that a report is being prepared, which will be submitted to senior officers.

In the video, the woman doctor, who is wearing a mask, is seen talking to a man who was shooting the incident on his mobile camera.

The man is heard saying, “Why are you telling people that they will recover by praying Jesus?  Why are you not saying that people should pray according to their own religion?” In response, the woman is heard saying that people are getting cured by offering prayers to Jesus.”

Some BJP leaders, including Bhopal Huzur seat MLA Rameshwar Sharma, shared the video on Twitter.

“This is not the time to propagate any religion. Doctors and medical professionals are engaged in selfless service of humanity. In such a situation, the woman doctor is propagating a religion. This is condemnable,” Sharma told PTI.

When asked about the episode, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Prabhakar Nanaware said that a report is being sent to the district collector about this incident.

In the report, the termination of services of this contract doctor is being recommended, he said.

Bajna police station in-charge Dilip Rajoriya said the case will be registered after investigation. So far, no case has been registered, he said.

Pakistan Hindu lawmaker submits bill seeking religious minorities to be referred to as ‘non-Muslims’

A Hindu lawmaker in Pakistan has submitted a bill in the lower house of Parliament seeking that religious minorities in the country be constitutionally referred to as ‘non-Muslims’ to end the discrimination and establish equality and justice for every citizen.

Keeso Mal Kheeal Das, a member of the National Assembly from the Opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, approached the National Assembly with a private member bill under rule 118 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.

Called as the Constitution Amendment Act, 2021, the bill aims to end discrimination against Pakistani non-Muslims who have been also referred in the constitution as minorities.

He suggested that the bill should be adopted and brought into effect immediately.

The government has not opposed the bill so far and the matter has been referred to the relevant standing committee. After it is vetted by a bipartisan committee of the house, it will be presented for voting.

Das is of the view that the inaccurate reference as minorities gives the impression of being second-class citizens.

“It is against the spirit of the Constitution, 1973, to discriminate against a large number of population by declaring them a minority, when the sacrifices of that population are remarkable in every sphere of life for the prosperity, growth and bright future of the country,” Das said in the bill.

Kumbh Mela in Haridwar

Hindu pilgrims descended on the banks of the Ganges river in HARIDWAR ON Thursday, shrugging off Covid-19 risks for the start of the Kumbh Mela, a religious festival that regularly attracts millions.

“The pandemic is a bit of a worry, but we are taking all precautions,” said organiser Siddharth Chakrapani, who expected between 800,000 and a million people to attend on FIRST  DAY alone.

“I’m sure Maa Ganga will take care of their safety,” he added, referring to the river considered holy by the faithful.

According to Hindu mythology, gods and demons fought a war over a sacred pitcher containing the nectar of immortality. Drops fell at four different locations, which now alternate as hosts for the immense gatherings. Every four years Mini Kumbha Melas are held in different locations

Maha Kumbh Mela is recognised as a piece of intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, and its last edition — in Prayag in 2019 — attracted around 55 million people over 48 days. That is held once in 12 years.

This year, beginning Thursday, Haridwar is the host, and several million people are expected to throng the holy city in Uttarakhand state over the coming seven weeks.

Makaravilakku IN Sabari Malai

Lakhs of Ayyappa devotees witnessed ‘Makara  jyothi’ in Sabarimala on 14th January.

Sabarimalai  hill temple, which used to witness a heavy rush on the occasion every year, was thronged by only a few thousand pilgrims due to the strict safety guidelines in place in the wake of the virus outbreak.

As per the government directive, only 5,000 pilgrims were permitted to climb the holy hills to offer prayers on the day, according toTravancore Devaswom Board (TDB) officials .

The portals of the shrine was thrown open after the ”deeparadhana” which was performed to the idol of Lord Ayyappa adorned with the holy jewels, ”Thiruvabharanam”.

The jewels were brought here, moments before the ”arti”, in a ceremonial procession, which started its journey a couple of days earlier from the Pandalam palace, where, according to legend, Lord Ayyappa was born and spent his childhood.

The ”Saranam Ayyappa” chants intensified when the ”makara jyothi”, considered a divine light by devotees, flickered across the eastern horizon above the Ponnambalamedu soon after the arti.

Meanwhile, state Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran earlier said here that the Left government was prepared to extend all support for the developmentof Sabarimala.

Indicating the fall in revenue collection at the hill temple, he said only Rs 16 crore was collected till Tuesday in this season compared to the revenue of Rs 260 crore last year.
