மனம் என்னும் மகோன்னத சக்தி பற்றிச் சொல்லும் லவணன் கதை!

வசிஷ்ட மஹரிஷி மனதின் மகோன்னத சக்தி பற்றி ஸ்ரீ ராமருக்கு விவரிக்கலானார். அதை நன்கு அவர் புரிந்து கொள்ளும் பொருட்டு லவணன் என்ற மஹராஜனின் கதையைக் கூறலானார்.
லவணன் என்ற மஹராஜன் தன் தேசத்தைச் சிறப்பாக அரசாண்டு வந்தான். ஒரு நாள் அவன் அரசவையில் ஒரு மாயாஜால நிபுணன் வந்தான். அவன் தனது வித்தையைக் காட்ட அனுமதி கேட்டு அரசவையினர் பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் போதே அரசனை மனோவசியம் செய்தான். தனது கையிலிருந்த மயிலிறகுகள் கொண்ட மந்திரக் கோலை அவன் அசைத்தான். அவ்வளவு தான், அரசன் ஒரு ஆழ்ந்த உறக்கநிலைக்குச் சென்றதை அனைவரும் பார்த்தனர். சிறிது நேரம் கழித்தது. ஆழ்ந்த உறக்கத்திலிருந்து திகைப்புடன் எழுந்த மன்னன் என்ன நடந்தது என்பதை விளக்கினான்.
மன்னனின் கீழ் பணியாற்றிய ஒரு படைத்தலைவன் அவனுக்கு ஒரு அழகிய குதிரையைப் பரிசாகத் தந்தான். அதன் மீது மன்னன் ஏறி அமர, அது வாயு வேகம் மனோவேகமாகப் பறக்கலாயிற்று. அது வேகமாக ஓடி ஒரு அடர்ந்த வனப்பகுதியை அடைந்தது. மன்னன் குதிரையின் வேகத்தைக் கண்டு தாள முடியாமல் அதனிடமிருந்து எப்படியாவது தப்பிக்க வேண்டுமென்று நினைத்தான். குதிரை ஒரு மரக்கிளையின் வழியே ஓடும் போது மரக்கிளையைப் பிடித்துக் கொண்ட அரசன் குதிரை வெகு தூரம் ஓடிய பிறகு கீழே குதித்தான். அவன் காட்டில் அங்குமிங்கும் சுற்றி அலைந்தான். ஒரே தாகம், பசி.
என்ன செய்வதென்று தெரியாத நிலையில் ஒரு சண்டாளப் பெண்மணி அருகில் வயலில் வேலை பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் தன் தந்தைக்காக உணவு எடுத்துச் செல்வதைக் கண்டான். அவளிடம் சென்று உணவில் ஒரு பகுதியைத் தருமாறு கேட்டான். அவளோ ஒரு நிபந்தனை விதித்தாள். தன்னை அவன் மணம் செய்து கொள்வதாக ஒப்புக் கொண்டால் மட்டுமே தன்னால் உணவு தர முடியும் என்று அவள் சொன்னாள். அரசன் அதற்கு இணங்கினான். அரசனுக்கு உணவு வழங்கிய அந்தப் பெண்மணி அவனைத் தன்னுடன் தந்தை இருக்குமிடம் அழைத்துச் சென்றாள். தந்தை சம்மதம் தர அவனை மணந்தாள்.
சண்டாளர்கள் வசிக்கும் இடத்திற்குச் சென்ற அரசன் அவர்கள் வாழ்க்கை முறையை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டி இருந்தது. மாமிசம் முதலிய அவர்களது உணவுப் பழக்கங்களையும் பின்பற்ற வேண்டியதாயிற்று. காலக் கிரமத்தில அந்தப் பெண் முதலில் ஒரு பெண் குழந்தையைப் பெற்றாள். பின்னர் ஒரு ஆண் குழந்தையைப் பெற்றாள். குடும்பம் பெரிதானது. அரசனுக்கு வயது கூடிக் கொண்டே போனது.
ஒரு சமயம் அந்தப் பகுதியில் பெரிய பஞ்சம் வந்து அனைவரையும் வாட்டியது.எவ்வளவோ கஷ்டப்பட்டு பார்த்தும் அவனால் தன் குடும்பத்தைப் பராமரிக்க முடியவில்லை. அவர்களைப் பராமரிக்க முடியாமல் போனதால் அவன் எரியும் நெருப்பில் குதித்து உயிரை விட்டான்.
இந்தக் கணத்தில் திடீரென்று லவணனுக்குச் சுய உணர்வு வந்தது. அவனுக்கு ஆச்சரியம் தாங்கவில்லை. எப்படி இது சாத்தியம் என்று எண்ணலானான். உடனே தான் கனவில் கண்ட வனாந்திரப் பகுதிக்கு நிஜமாகவே சென்றான். அப்படி ஒரு பகுதி அவன் கனவில் கண்டது போலவே இருந்ததை ஆச்சரியத்துடன் அவன் பார்த்தான். தான் கனவில் கண்டபடியே பொருள்களும், இதர அம்சங்களும் இருந்தன. அத்துடன் மட்டுமல்லாமல் தனது மாமனார் மாமியாரையும் அவன் பார்த்தான். மிக கோரமாக இருந்த அவர்களையும் அவலட்சணம் பிடித்த அவர்களது மகளையும் அவன் பார்த்தான். அவளைத் தான் தனது பசியைத் தணிக்க வேண்டி அவன் மணம் புரிந்து கொண்டிருந்தான்.
கதையில் வரும் சம்பவங்களைச் சில நிமிடங்களிலேயே அனுபவித்து விட்டான் லவணன். ஆனால் அவையோ கனவு கண்ட சமயத்தில் நெடுங்காலம் நடந்தவை.
கதையைக் கூறி முடித்த வசிஷ்டர் இதன் தத்துவத்தை விளக்கலானார். மனம் என்பது மகோன்னத சக்தி கொண்ட ஒன்று. காலம், வெளி என்ற உண்மைகளுக்கு உட்பட்டு பல காலம் நடந்த சம்பவங்களை ஒரு சில நிமிடங்களிலேயே அரசன் அனுபவிக்க மனத்தின் அனுபவங்களே காரணம்.
லவணன் ஒரு காலத்தில் அப்படிப்பட்ட வனப்பகுதிக்குச் சென்று அவர்களையோ அல்லது அவர்களைப் போன்று ஒத்து இருப்பவர்களையோ பார்த்தும் இருக்கலாம். கணப்பொழுதில் அவன் அவற்றை மறந்திருந்தாலும் மனப் பதிவுகள் அவனை விட்டு நீங்காமல் இருந்திருக்கும்.
உலகம் என்னும் வனத்தில் இரையாகும் மிருகங்கள் போல வலையில் சிக்கித் தடுமாறுபவை மனிதர்களின் மனங்களே. எவன் ஒருவன் இதை விசாரத்தினால் அறிந்து கொள்கிறானோ அவன், மேகம் விலகிய சூரியன் போல ஆன்மாவின் ஒளியைப் பெற்றவன் ஆகிறான்.

கொரோனா நெருக்கடி காலத்தில் வாழ்வாதாரம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு மாதச் சம்பளமின்றி திருக்கோயில்களில் பணிபுரியும் அர்ச்சகர்களுக்கு மாத உதவித் தொகையாக 4000 ரூபாய் தமிழக முதல்வர் மு.க.ஸ்டாலினால் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
இதுகுறித்து தமிழக அரசு வெளியிட்டுள்ள அறிவிப்பில், இந்து சமய அறநிலையத் துறையின் நிர்வாக கட்டுப்பாட்டின் கீழ் உள்ள திருக்கோயில்களில் நிலையான மாதச்சம்பளம் ஏதுமின்றி பணியாற்றி வரும் அர்ச்சகர்கள், பட்டாச்சாரியர்கள், பூசாரிகள் மற்றும் இதர பணியாளர்களுக்கு 4000 ரூபாய் தொகையும், 10 கிலோ அரிசியும், மளிகைப் பொருள் தொகுப்பும் வழங்கப்படும்.
கொரோனா நோய் தொற்று காலத்தில் திருக்கோயில்களில் பக்தர்கள் வருகை இல்லாததால் அர்ச்சகர்கள், பட்டாச்சாரியர்கள், பூசாரிகளின் வாழ்வாதாரம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள நிலையில், அவர்களுக்கு 4000 ரூபாய் உதவித் தொகையும், 1000 ரூபாய் மதிப்பிலான 10 கிலோ அரிசி, 15 வகை மளிகைப் பொருட்கள் கொண்ட தொகுப்பும் வழங்கும் திட்டம் ஜூன் 3 அன்று முதல்வர் முக.ஸ்டாலினால் துவக்கி வைக்கப்பட்டது.
இந்த திட்டத்தின் மூலம் சுமார் 14,000 திருக்கோயில் பணியாளர்கள் மற்றும் திருக்கோயில் வாயிலாக உரிமம் பெற்றவர்கள் பயன்பெறுவார்கள் என தமிழக அரசு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

தமிழக பாரதீய ஜனதா கட்சித் தலைவர் எல்.முருகன், தீ விபத்தில் சேதம் அடைந்த மண்டைக்காடு பகவதி அம்மன் கோயிலை பார்வையிட்ட பின் கூறியதாவது: தி.மு.க., ஆட்சிக்கு வந்தால் கோயில்களை சரிவர பராமரிக்க மாட்டார்கள். ஆனால் கோயில் வருமானத்தை கொண்டு வேறு செலவு செய்வார்கள். இனி அரசு இப்படி செய்யாது என்று நம்புகிறேன். அறநிலையத்துறை ஹிந்து கோயில்களில் இருந்து வெளியேற வேண்டும். கோயில் நிர்வாகத்தை பக்தர்கள் குழுவிடம் ஒப்படைக்க வேண்டும்.

கோவிட் ஆயுர்வேத மருந்துக்கு ஆந்திர அரசு ஒப்புதல்
ஆந்திராவில், கோவிட் நோயாளிகளுக்கு ஆனந்தய்யா என்ற மருத்துவர் வழங்கிய மருந்துக்கு அம்மாநில அரசு ஒப்புதல் அளித்தது.
ஆந்திராவின் நெல்லூர் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள கிருஷ்ணபட்டணத்தை சேர்ந்த ஆனந்தய்யா என்ற ஆயுர்வேத மருத்துவர், கொரோனாவுக்கு மருந்து தயாரித்து நோயாளிகளுக்கு இலவசமாக வழங்கி வந்தார். இதனை பெறுவதற்கு தினமும் ஆயிரகணக்கானோர் குவிந்தனர். சுமார் 3 கிலோ மீட்டர் தூரத்திற்கு மக்கள் வரிசையில் நின்று மருந்தை பெற்று சென்றனர்.
இந்த மருந்தை ஆயுஷ் அமைச்சகம் மற்றும் திருப்பதி தேவஸ்தான ஆயுர்வேத நிபுணர்கள் ஆய்வு நடத்தினர். இதில் பக்க விளைவு ஏதும் இல்லை என நிரூபணம் ஆனது. இதனையடுத்து இந்த மருந்துக்கு ஆந்திர அரசு ஒப்புதல் வழங்கியது. ஆனால், கண்ணில் விடப்படும் சொட்டு மருந்துக்கு தடை விதிக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

பாபா ராம்தேவ் கருத்து கூற தடை விதிக்க முடியாது: டில்லி நீதிமன்றம்
அலோபதி மருத்துவத்திற்கு எதிராக கருத்து தெரிவித்த வழக்கில், ‘பாபா ராம்தேவ் கருத்துக் கூற தடை விதிக்க முடியாது‘ என, டில்லி உயர்நீதிமன்றம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.
‘தற்போது கடைப்படிக்கப்பட்டு வரும் அலோபதி மருத்துவ முறை முற்றிலும் முட்டாள்தனமானது. அரசால் அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட ரெம்டெசிவிர் உள்ளிட்ட மருந்துகள் மக்களின் உயிரைக் காப்பதிலிருந்து தோல்வியடைந்து விட்டன. அலோபதி மருந்துகளாலும், மருத்துவத்தாலும் லட்சக்கணக்கான உயிர்களை இழந்துள்ளோம். இந்த முறையை முற்றிலும் நீக்கிவிட்டு, ஆயுர்வேத முறையை அமல்படுத்த வேண்டும்‘ என, யோகா குரு பாபா ராம்தேவ் தெரிவித்திருந்தார்.
இதனால் பாபா ராம்தேவிற்கு எதிராக டில்லி மருத்துவ கவுன்சில் வழக்கு தொடர்ந்தது. இதை விசாரித்த டில்லி உயர்நீதிமன்றம், ‘அலோபதி மருத்துவத்திற்கு எதிராக கருத்து வெளியிட பாபா ராம்தேவிற்கு தடை விதிக்க முடியாது. அவர் கூறிய கருத்துகள் அடிப்படை சுதந்திரத்தின் கீழ் வரக்கூடியது‘ எனக் கூறி, வழக்கை ஜூலை 13ம் தேதிக்கு ஒத்திவைத்துள்ளது. ஆனால், ஜூலை 13ம் தேதி நடைபெறும் அடுத்த விசாரணை வரை எந்தவிதமான ஆத்திரமூட்டும் அறிக்கையும் வெளியிட வேண்டாம் என்று ராம்தேவிடம் கூறுமாறு உயர் நீதிமன்றம் வழக்கறிஞரைக் கேட்டுள்ளது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

கோவை, பாரதியார் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் போதிய கல்வி தகுதி இல்லாமல் நூலக உதவி தொழில்நுட்ப அதிகாரியாக நியமிக்கப்பட்டு, பின்னர் தொழில்நுட்ப அதிகாரியாக பதவி உயர்வு பெற்ற கவுதமன் என்பவரின் நியமனத்தையும், பதவி உயர்வையும் ரத்து செய்யக் கோரிரமேஷ், ராம்குமார், கனகராஜ் ஆகியோர் சென்னை உயர்நீதிமன்றத்தில் மனு தாக்கல் செய்தனர்.
இந்த வழக்கை விசாரித்த நீதிபதி மகாதேவன், ‘‘தன் கல்வித்தகுதி சான்றிதழை பல்கலைக்கழக விசாரணையின் போது கவுதமன் தாக்கல் செய்யவில்லை.உரிய கல்வி தகுதி பெறாத அவரது நியமனமும், பதவி உயர்வும்சட்டவிரோதமானது. தகுதியில்லாத கவுதமனை ஓய்வுபெற அனுமதித்தது தவறானது. அவரை நியமனம் செய்ய பரிந்துரைத்த தேர்வுக் குழுவிற்கு எதிராக பாரதியார் பல்கலைக்கழகம் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும். பல்கலைக்கழகங்கள், கல்வி நிறுவனங்கள் பணி நியமனம் செய்யும் போது வெளிப்படைத் தன்மையை பின்பற்ற வேண்டும்.

World Environment Day: Namaami Gange volunteers distribute plants, carry out cleaning drive in Varanasi
Members of the team also appealed to the residents of the area to maintain the cleanliness of nearby areas and not pollute the river Ganges. Many were seen diving in and collecting debris from the river bed in baskets.
“It is our aim to keep river Ganga clean. We have appealed to the people to help us in our endeavour. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the river had cleaned up a little bit but it is very polluted again. We don’t want people to take this issue lightly,” said a team member
The ‘Namaami Gange Programme’, is one of the Central government’s flagship programmes to clean the river Ganga. it was launched in June 2014 with a budget of Rs 20,000 crore.
World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5 across the globe .

Chunks of raw meat found in Assam temple, 5 arrested
Five persons were arrested on Saturday for allegedly placing chunks of raw meat inside a temple in Assam’s Dhubri district, a police officer said.
Tension had gripped Jinkata Part-II village in Golakgunj police station area on Friday after pieces of meat were found in the Kali temple, he said. Locals took to the streets, seeking immediate arrest of the culprits, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rosyrani Sarma said.
The police had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control, the ASP said. A massive manhunt was launched and five persons were subsequently arrested on Saturday, Sarma said, stressing that a strict vigil was being maintained in the area to avoid any untoward incident. The meat pieces have been sent to the state forensic laboratory for examination, he added.

Ayurveda-Allopathy COVID-19 treatment study effective in Gujarat
Ayurveda along with standard Allopathic treatment has been found to be effective on COVID- 19 patients in a study done by the Gujarat government’s AYUSH department with the approval of an expert Allopathic committee, officials said on Tuesday.
The study was conducted on two groups of patients admitted in the 1200-bed COVID facility in the civic hospital in Ahmedabad, with set A receiving standard Allopathic treatment and group B getting a government-approved fixed protocol of Ayurvedic and Allopathic treatments, an official release said.
“Patients receiving Ayurvedic treatment along with Allopathic treatment recovered faster, and their symptoms were relieved faster compared to those who received only standard Allopathic treatment,” it said.

Anandaiah to make medicine for 75,000 Covid-infected in Andhra Pradesh
Elaborate arrangements are being made to distribute the herbal medicine of Bonigi Anandaiah of Krishnapatnam to Covid-infected persons in Andhra Pradesh, to start with, and elsewhere later.
For those booking the medicine online, a deal was struck with the postal department and a private courier service to deliver the medicine in rural areas and urban areas respectively.
An official said on Wednesday that permission has been sought to create an E-commerce platform, with a payment gateway, to enable those booking the medicine online to pay the postal/courier charges.
The Nellore district administration has lent its support by arranging a machine and material to pack the medicine in sachets.
Anandaiah sought five days’ time to procure all the ingredients to start preparation of the concoction.
Anandaiah has plans to prepare his herbal medicine for Covid cure to 75,000 infected patients across Andhra Pradesh.
Since honey is a main ingredient in the medicine, officials have arranged a tie-up with the Girijan Cooperative Corporation to supply large quantities of honey.
Similarly, the district forest officer has been asked to help Anandaiah secure different varieties of herbs being used in his concoction.

Adityanath, Ramdev now in varsity curriculum
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath and yoga guru Ramdev will now be part of the Chaudhary Charan Singh University curriculum.
University officials said that this is part of their effort to teach students about their “ancient cultural heritage and the architects of this heritage”.
Yogi Adityanath’s ‘Hathyoga Ka Swaroop va Sadhna’ and Ramdev’s ‘Yog Sadhna va Yog Chikitsa Rahasya’ will be part of the first year, second semester undergraduate philosophy curriculum.
It can also be taken as an elective subject by students, along with other courses.
Prof Y. Vimla, pro vice-chancellor of the university, said: “The Board of Studies on philosophy has decided that the works of Yogi Adityanath and Ramdev would be included in the syllabus. The two books have been recommended by the state government and endorsed by the Board of Studies of the university”. The recommendation from the state government was made to the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Under the New Education Policy, the UGC has come up with a new curriculum that allows universities to decide what makes up 30 per cent of the syllabus for each course. This 30 per cent is designed to keep regional relevance in mind.

Fire causes extensive damage at Mandaikadu Bhagavathy temple
A major fire broke out at the Mandaikadu Bhagavathy temple, a famous pilgrim centre frequented by devotees from Kerala, near Colachel in Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu, triggering panic among residents here on Wednesday morning. No injury or death have been reported.
The fire is suspected to have started from a lamp lit inside the sanctum sanctorum after the deeparadhana ritual in the morning. It is also speculated that short circuit might have been the reason. A disaster was averted as there were no devotees inside the temple or on the premises due to Covid-induced lockdown restrictions.
The fire was first noticed by the temple priest around 7am. There was extensive damage to the tune of lakhs of rupees as per the initial estimate. However, there was no damage to the idol.

14,000 temple workers, priests get cash assistance and dry ration from Tamil Nadu government
In a bid to support temple workers and priests during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a cash assistance of Rs 4,000 along with 10 kg rice and 15 varieties of dry ration. Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department PK Sekar Babu made the announcement on Monday and also confirmed that 14,000 workers will be benefitted by the decision.
As per the official sources, in 36,000 temples in Tamil Nadu under the HR&CE department; as many as 34,000 temples (pit of 36,000) have revenue less than Rs 10,000 a year. Priests in many of these temples and other workers do not receive a steady income.
Following demands from priests and workers, Chief Minister MK Stalin had ordered Rs 4,000 as cash assistance along with 10kg rice and 15 varieties of groceries.
The order is implemented from June 3, and nearly 14,000 temple workers and priests are set to benefit from the move, added sources.

Hindu temple opens in former school in Bath after long campaign
Members of Bath’s Hindu community have their own temple after a 17-year-long campaign.
They used to have to travel to Bristol, Birmingham, or London to worship but have now taken over part of a former school on the outskirts of the city.
The Shree Jagannatha Temple is not only the first in Bath, it is the first of its kind in Europe. Bath is the largest city in the county of Somerset, England, known for and named after its Roman-built baths
Jagannath – Lord of the universe – is a deity worshipped by Hindus across India and Bangladesh. He is seen by many as an incarnation of Lord Krishna.
Painted wooden idols of Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra were brought to Bath from the temple at Puri in India. The deities were installed at the opening of the Shree Jagannatha Temple at the former Bath Community Academy on 22 May 2021.

பால்சாக் (Honoré de Balzac)
பால்சாக் என்பவர் பிரெஞ்ச் நாவலாசிரியர். இவர் 1799ஆம் ஆண்டில் பிறந்தார். 1850-இல் இறந்தார். புகழ் பெற்ற புதின எழுத்தாளர்களில் ஒருவர்.
பெற்றோர் தன் மீது பாசம் காட்டவில்லை என்று கருதிய பால்சாக் 21 வயதில் வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியேறினார். நேரடியாக பாரிஸுக்குச் சென்று வாழ்ந்தார். எழுத்தாளராகி காலந்தள்ள முயன்றார். பாரிஸில் வாழ்ந்த காலத்தில் உயர்மட்ட மனிதர்கள் இவருக்கு அறிமுகமானார்கள். பணக்காரர்களைக் கண்டவுடன் அவருக்கும் பணக்காரராக வேண்டும் என்ற ஆசை வந்தது.
பால்சாக் எழுதிய முதல் புதினங்களுக்கு வரவேற்பு இல்லை. எழுத்துமூலம் போதுமான பணம் கிடைக்காததால் பெற்றோர்களிடமே திரும்பிச் சென்றார். பின்னர் புத்தகங்களை வெளியிடும் தொழிலில் இறங்கினார். அந்தத் தொழிலும் மூன்றே ஆண்டுகளில் படுத்துவிட்டது. பால்சாக்கின் வாழ்க்கையில் மிகவும் இக்கட்டான காலம் அது. மிகவும் மனம் உடைந்து போனார்.
இதற்குப் பின்னர் அவர் எழுதி வெளியிட்ட புத்தகம் நல்ல வரவேற்பைப் பெற்றது. 1831இல் THE WILD ASS’S SKIN என்ற அவரது நூல் வெற்றிநடை போட்டது. போலந்து பிரபு COUNTESS HANSKA இவரது ரசிகையானாள். அவருக்கு உடனே கடிதம் எழுதினார். இருவரிடையேயும் காதல் மலர்ந்தது. ஆனால் அந்த பெண்மணி ஏற்கனவே திருமணம் ஆனவள். ஆகையால் வெளிப்படையாக சந்திக்க முடியவில்லை. அவளைப் பார்ப்பதற்கு பால்சாக் ரோம், பிரஸ்ஸல்ஸ், செயின்ட் பீட்டர்ஸ்பர்க், வியன்னா என்று நகரம் நகரமாக அலைய வேண்டியிருந்தது.
இதற்குப் பின்னர் 18 ஆண்டுக் காலத்தில் பால்சாக் எழுதிய புத்தகங்கள் சக்கைப்போடு போட்டன. அவைகளில் சிறந்தது OLD GORIOT. இது ஒரு தந்தையின் துயரக்கதை. தனது குழந்தைகளை உளமார நேசித்த ஒரு தந்தை அவர்களுக்காக உழைத்து உழைத்து ஓடாக தேய்ந்து போகிறார். ஆனால் குழந்தைகளோ அவரிடம் சிறிதும் பாசமோ மதிப்போ வைக்கவில்லை என்பது கதையின் மையக் கருத்து.
பால்சாக்கிற்கு எழுதுவதில் வேகம் பிறக்கவே கடினமாக உழைக்கத் தொடங்குகிறார். சில நாட்களில் 16 மணி நேரத்திற்கு இடைவிடாமல் உழைப்பார். கடுங்காப்பியை கோப்பை கோப்பையாகக் குடிப்பார். அந்தக் காப்பியே அவரது உடலைக் கெடுத்துவிட்டது.
அவர் இறக்கும் தருவாயில் COUNTESS HANSKAவைத் திருமணம் செய்துகொண்டார். 18 ஆண்டுக் காதல் அப்போதுதான் கனிந்தது. அவர் பணக்காரராக வாழ்ந்தாலும் வரவுக்கு மேல் செலவு செய்தார். திருமணம் ஆன சில மாதங்களிலேயே இறந்து விட்டார். அப்போது அவர் பெரிய கடனாளி!
இவர் 90க்கும் மேலான நாவல்களை எழுதி 2000க்கும் மேலான கதா பாத்திரங்களைப் படைத்தவர் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது

WEBSTER’S , the world’s biggest 18 volume English dictionary, is said to have as many as 40,000 words “akin to Sanskrit”. Dr N R Waradapande says one fourth of the total English vocabulary is Sanskritic. Dr Waradapande is currently engaged in compiling a full-fledged dictionary of Sanskrit based English words and he is confident of identifying 10,000 such words (This report is from Organiser dated February 19, 2006.)
My comments
My google search led me to www.nrwardpande.in and I came to know he died in 2015. Though he had authored books on Date of Rig Veda, Soma Plant etc. I don’t find any book on languages.

SANSKRIT WORDS IN C O D
Article written by Sudhakar Raje in The Organiser gives some details about Concise Oxford Dictionary. It says “the words in the COD are stated to have generally Latin roots and frequently Greek roots. As a matter of fact, in numerous such cases, the evolved English word or the Latin/Greek root has such a striking resemblance to a Sanskrit word both phonetically and in respect of meaning, as to clearly suggest that the root of the given word is Sanskrit. This writer has identified 100 such words in COD. In addition, there are at least a thousand words in this dictionary where the prefix or suffix is derived from Sanskrit. COD also lists about 70 purely Sanskrit words as part of the English vocabulary.

In my over 100 articles in this blog, I have given more than 1000 English words with Sanskrit root.

In South East Asia the influence of Sanskrit was so strong that it can be seen not only in old inscriptions but also but also in Sanskrit names for people and places that are still in use, such as in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Burma. In the Middle East , the present home land of fundamentalist Islam, Sanskrit had an undeniable presence.
The worship of the Vedic Sun Gad was a popular religion in the Roman Empire, Egypt and all over the Middle East.
Prof. Avinash Chandra writes in his book ‘ Rig Vedic India ‘ that emigrants from India settled in various parts of Europe and Asia in ancient times. This resulted Sanskrit influence on local languages.
Arnold Toynbee’s book ‘Mankind and Mother Earth’ contains a map showing Sanskrit speaking nomads to the south-east of the Caspian Sea. When even nomads moving between Asia and Europe spoke Sanskrit, it is certain that the language was used by householders and educational institutions of Asia and Europe in those times.

Oldest War in the World- Battle of Ten Kings
The Rig Veda contains the description of a great battle called Dasharajnya , Battle of Ten Kings, which is the world’s oldest recorded battle. It was fought between the Tritsu King Sudasa on the one hand and a confederacy of ten peoples or clans on the other.
The ten peoples were Paktha, Bhalana, Alina, Siva, Vishanin, Simyu, Bhrigu, Prithu, Parshu. Collectively they had two group names- Anu and Druhyu. The Druhyu king defeated in the battle was named Angara. His successor king Gandhara , migrated to the North West with his clan and gave his name to Gandhara country. The puranas which are the historical companion texts of the Rig Veda, clearly state that major sections of these Druhyu emigrated to distant lands to the North. Those among them who spread to Europe came to be known as Celts and the language they spoke came to be called Celtic.
During the last some centuries before the Christian era, Cetic was spoken over a wide area of Europe from Spain to Britain. These ancient Celts were originally the Druids, who in turn were identifiable with the Druhyus.
The languages spoken by the peoples that fought Dasharajnya War split into two broad groups called Satem and Kentum, in the original Vedic/Indian homeland itself, the Anu speaking the Satem dialects and the Druhyu the Kentum ones. With the Westward spread of the Druhyus, the latter evolved into proto-proto Indo European languages, some of which became extinct, like Latin, while others developed into extant , spoken languages including English.

பெண்களிடம் நீங்கள் அதிகம் பேசுவதில்லையே, ஏன்?
இங்கிலாந்தின் பிரபல அறிஞரான ஜான்ஸனிடம் ஒரு வம்புக்காரப் பெண்மணி வந்து பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். தன்னை அவர் கவனிக்கவே இல்லை என்று அந்தப் பெண்மணிக்குச் சற்று ஆதங்கம்!
அவர் ஜான்ஸனிடம் வலியச் சென்று கேட்டார்:” என்ன டாக்டர்! நீங்கள் எப்போதுமே பெண்களை விட ஆண்களிடமே அதிகம் பேசிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்?
அதற்கு உடனடியாக ஜான்ஸன் பதில் சொன்னார்:” அம்மணி! நான் பெண்களுடன் பேசுவதை மிகவும் விரும்புகிறேன். அவர்களின் அழகு எனக்கு மிகவும் பிடிக்கும். அவர்களின் நளினத்தை நான் விரும்புகிறேன். அவர்களின் கிளர்ச்சியூட்டும் தன்மையும் எனக்குப் பிடிக்கும். கூடவே அவர்கள் மௌனமாக இருப்பதும் எனக்கு அதிகம் பிடிக்கும்!”
அவ்வளவு தான் அந்த அம்மணி அங்கிருந்து நடையைக் கட்டினார்!

இரண்டு மனைவிக்காரனுக்கு என்ன தண்டனை?
லார்டு ரஸ்ஸலிடம் ஒருவர் வந்து ஒரு கேள்வியைக் கேட்டார் இப்படி: “இரண்டு பெண்டாட்டிக்காரனுக்கு என்ன தண்டனை கடுமையானது?”
ஒரு கணம் கூட தாமதிக்காமல் ரஸ்ஸல் பதில் கூறினார் இப்படி: “இரண்டு மாமியார்கள்!”

கடவுளும் காமன்வெல்த்தும்!
ஆலிவர் க்ராம்வெல் முதன் முதலாக காமன்வெல்த் நாணயத்தை அச்சடித்தார். ஒரே பெருமிதம் அவருக்கு! வயதான ஒருவர் அதைப் பார்த்தார்.
நாணயத்தைத் திருப்பித் திருப்பிப் பார்த்தார். ஒரு பக்கத்தில் ‘கடவுள் நம்முடன் இருக்கிறார்’, என்று பொறிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. மறு பக்கத்தில் ‘காமன்வெல்த் ஆஃப் இங்கிலாந்து’ என்று பொறிக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது.
முதியவர் அதைப் பார்த்து விட்டுக் கூறினார் இப்படி: “ஓஹோ! கடவுளும் காமன்வெல்த்தும் வெவ்வேறு பக்கத்தில் இருப்பார்கள் என்பது இப்போது தான் புரிகிறது!”

எப்படி வண்ணக்கலவையை உருவாக்குகிறீர்கள்?
பிரபல ஓவியரான வில்லியம் ஆர்பனிடம் (Sir William Orpen) ஒருவர், “எப்படி உங்கள் வண்ணங்களை மிக்ஸ் செய்து வண்ணக் கலவையை உருவாக்குகிறீகள்?” என்று கேட்டார்.
உடனடியாக அவரிடமிருந்து வந்தது பதில் : “மூளையுடன்”!

மாமியாருக்கு மறு பெயர் என்ன?
நண்பர்கள் இருவர் ஒருவருக்கு ஒருவர் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்த போது ‘உன் மாமியாரின் பெயர் என்ன’ என்று கேட்டதற்கு தன் மாமியாரின் பெயரைக் கூறிய முதல் நண்பர், ‘ஆமாம், எந்தப் பெயரைக் கேட்கிறீர்கள்? என்று சந்தேகமாகக் கேட்க இரண்டாமவர் கேட்டார்.
“ஓஹோ! அவருக்கு இரண்டு பெயர் உண்டா? அவருடைய இன்னொரு பெயர் என்ன?” அதற்கு முதல் நண்பர் கூறினார் :

அந்த நண்பர் ஒரு சமயம் தனது நாயை மிருகத்திற்கு வைத்தியம் செய்யும் மிருகவியல் வைத்தியரிம் சென்று திரும்பிக் கொண்டிருந்ததைக் கண்ட அவரது நண்பர் கேட்டார்: “என்ன விஷயம்? நாயுடன் வெடினரி டாக்டர் வீட்டிலிருந்து திரும்புகிறீர்கள்?”
அதற்கு நண்பர் பதில் சொன்னார்: “ இந்த எனது நாய் என் மாமியாரைக் கடித்து விட்டது. அதற்காகத் தான் சென்றேன்.”
“ஓஹோ! நாய்க்கான நல்ல தூக்க மாத்திரை உள்ளிட்டவற்றை வாங்கிக் கொண்டீர்களா?”
“ஊஹூம்! நாயின் பற்களைக் கொஞ்சம் கூர்மையாகத் தீட்டச் சொன்னேன். அவ்வளவு தான்!”

I have been reading the Sanskrit Vedas through English books for over 50 years. Most of them by foreigners and a few by Marxist professors; very rarely one or two by genuine patriotic Hindus. When I lived in Madurai until 1986, I got very good books from the Victoria Edward Hall Library and Madurai University Library. Since January 1987 , I have been living in London where I have got two excellent libraries – The British Library and the University of London Library. Some local council libraries also had some very good books donated by Hindu scholars. But I have never tried to read the Vedas from A to Z. Now I have started reading the Rig Veda from First Mandala/Book. I started in April 2021 and I will be finishing the first Mandala very soon. Then I would have covered 191 hymns out of 1025 hymns. That means a long way to go.
The reason for writing now is to tell you the wonders I found so far.
Fables
I thought that the earliest fables are from the Upanishads dated around 8th Century BCE. Later we find many fables in Ramayana and Mahabharata. Buddha Jataka stories are polluted with Bodhisatva and moreover the originals are ‘stolen’ from the ancient Hindu folk lore. Abroad, we hear about Aesop fables rivalling with our Panchatantra and Hitopadesa.
But the origin for these fables, particularly animal fables lie in the oldest book in the world – The Rig Veda. Even before finishing the first book with 191 hymns, I read, quail caught by a wolf, but saved by the miraculous Twins Asvins. In two or three hymns, we see the eagle or falcon bringing the Soma plant. I have already written about the origin of Santa Claus Reindeer cart. It is actually in the Asvin Mantras ! Asvins carts are drawn by deer, swans and other birds etc. we also read about flying horses with a horn in the Rig Veda!
Signatures in songs
I used to wonder why the Tamil Hymn singer Tiru Gnana Sambandr used his name in every decad (Ten Poems) as a signature (Mudra) and why all others such as Purandaradasa, Thiyagaraja, Muthu swami Dikshitar, Bhakta Meera, Kabir and others followed him in placing their name in the last line. Sambandar, the Boy Wonder of Tamil Nadu, lived 1400 years ago. But the origin of such Mudras is in the Rig Veda. Agastya who has over 25 hymns in the First Book (Mandala) alone finish few of his compositions with Manharya, Son of Mana says this . Kutsa Angirasa finish his poems with a phrase or line invoking Aditi, Sindhu, Earth and Heaven.
In Meera Bhai’s compositions we see Meera ke Prabhu Girdhara Nagara, in Kabir poems ‘his name’, in Dikshitar’s ‘Gurukuha’ etc.
So, all these saints followed the rig Vedic rishis/seers. Even today the composers place a Mudra in the new compositions.
As I have mentioned elsewhere three greatest contributions of Vedic Hindus to the world civilization are 1. Decimal System, 2. Domestication of Cow and announcing it as Mother because the cow’s milk is the closest to Mother’s milk and Domestication of Horses and yoking them with wheeled chariots.

HOMER
ஹோமர்- கிரேக்க நாட்டின் புகழ்பெற்ற புலவர். இலியட் (ILIAD) ஒடிஸி (ODYSSEY) ஆகிய இரண்டு காவியங்கள் இவரது படைப்புகள். ஆடிஸி என்றும் சொல்லுவார்கள். அமெரிக்காவிலும் பிரிட்டனிலும் இரண்டுவித உச்சரிப்புகள்.
எழுத்துகள் தோன்றுவதற்கு முன்னால் இவர் வாழ்ந்ததால் அவர் கைப்பட எழுதியிருக்க வாய்ப்பில்லை. அவர் சிந்தனையில் உதித்த கவிகள் கர்ண பரம்பரையாகி, செவிவழி மூலம் வந்திருக்க வேண்டும்.
அவருடைய படைப்புகளில் மிக நீண்டது இலியட். இது 24 புத்தகங்களை உடையது. அந்தக் காலத்தில் எல்லாரும் வட்டமாக அமர்ந்துகொண்டு ஒருவர் பாடியவுடன் மற்றவர் திரும்பப் பாடுவார்கள். இவ்வழியிலேயே ஹோமரின் காவியங்களும் பரவின.
ஹோமர்- இறந்த 300 ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பின்னரே இரண்டு காவியங்களும் எழுத்து வடிவில் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டன.
TROY நகரம் வீழ்ச்சியடைந்த பின்னர் ஒடிஸியஸ் மேற்கொண்ட பயணங்களை “ஒடிஸி” கூறுகிறது.
கிரேக்கர்களுக்கும் ட்ரோஜன்களுக்கும் (TROJANS) இடையே நடந்த போரை “இலியட்” வருணிக்கிறது.
கிரேக்க நாட்டுக் கவிஞர்களில் ஹோமர்தான் மிகவும் பிரபலமானவர். ஆனால் அவரைப் பற்றிய முழுவிவரங்களும் கிடைக்கவில்லை. ஹோமரைப் பற்றி பல வரலாறுகள் இருக்கின்றன. அவை உண்மையா என்பதை அறியமுடியவில்லை.
இலியட்டும் ஒடிஸியும் இரண்டு ஆசிரியர்களால் படைக்கப் பட்டிருக்கலாம் என்ற கருத்தும் நிலவுகிறது.
துருக்கியிலுள்ள ஸ்மிர்னா (SMYRNA) என்ற இடத்தில் ஹோமர் பிறந்ததாகச் சிலரும் CHIOS தீவில் (ISLAND OF CHIOS) பிறந்ததாகச் சிலரும் கூறுகின்றனர்.
ஆனால் இவர் கியோஸ் தீவில் நீண்டகாலம் வழ்ந்ததும் இவர் கண் பார்வையற்றவர் என்பதும் உறுதியாகத் தெரிகிறது.
பழங்கால கிரேக்கத்தில் வாழ்ந்த சில பாடகர்கள், கவிஞர்கள் கண் பார்வையற்றவர்கள் என்பதும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
