பற்றிய செய்தியைக் காண்போம்–

Historians who wrote Christian history say that at least 70 out of 266 Popes were murdered or died in mysterious or suspicious circumstances. Wikipedia has given a list of at least 40 such Popes.
Another interesting thing about past popes is majority of them were from Italy.
Current Pope Francis is the first person to come from the Americas. He is an Argentinian.
One more interesting thing about the Popes is the average length of their Popehood. Historians give 20 to 25 years per king. Hindu history shows that Gurus or religious teachers lead their group for more years. The average may be 30 to 50 years per Guru. But surprisingly we have 265 Popes for a period of 2000 years. That is an average of less than 8 years per Pope. This confirms the conspiracy theories, murders and violence surrounding Popes.
History of Bible is more interesting. In the beginning Popes ruled that no one should possess a Bible and they should handle it only inside the Churches. Later, Bibles were sold with Pope’s permission to selected people. Not everyone can hold it. Later, there was big opposition for PRINTING Bible when Gutenberg invented printing machine. All these began with King Constantine burning all Bibles except one version in the fourth century. The reason was various Bibles had various stories which were contradictory like Hindu Puranas. Despite this, there are contradictory versions in Dead Sea scrolls and the Greek Bible in the British Library. There is tremendous pressure from vested interests not to publish those contradictions. There are 2000 differences or mistakes in the current Bible compared to Greek Version. In the beginning Bible was in Greek and Hebrew languages only. Even the later English Bible is constantly updated or altered with new English words or sentences till this day.
Old Tamil Bible has more Sanskrit words than Tamil words, they say.
History of Christian denominations is more interesting and there are over 200 Christian sects. Some even oppose celebrating Christmas. Syrian Orthodox, Greek Russian and Protestant movements are well known. The schism started in 11th century.
One of the Popes was jailed in France for eight years. No one came for his support or help.
Inquisition killed thousands of people. Women who opposed Christianity were burnt alive as witches including the most famous Saint Joan of Arc. A lot of Gypsies of Indian origin were also killed in such bonfires. It became part of untold and unsung stories.
History shows that Spanish and Portuguese did more violence ‘in the name of Christ’ than any other Christian sect. They wiped out the ancient South and Central American civilisations. Though Europeans from other countries went to the Americas and Australia, Pacific Islands ,South Africa and India and massacred natives, aborigines and others, it was mainly for political reasons. They wanted to occupy those lands or plunder gold and diamond.
India became a world wonder in the eyes of Christians and Muslims. Wherever they went they changed the entire country or region to their side except India. It remains a predominantly Hindu land till this day.

Pope John I (Saint), Elected August 13, 523, during the Ostrogothic occupation of the Italian peninsula. Was sent as an envoy by Ostrogoth king Theodoric to Constantinople. Upon return, Theodoric accused John I of conspiracy with the Byzantine empire. Imprisoned and starved to death on 18 May 526.[4]

Pope Pius I (Saint) (c.142-c.154), martyred by the sword according to old sources;[20] Claim of martyrdom removed from the 1969 General Roman Calendar after recent revisions[21]

அன் பிற்கும் உண்டோ அடைக்கும் தாழ் (ப்பாள் ) ? என்றான் வள்ளுவப் பெருந்தகை. இந்த அன்பு உயிரினங்கள் எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் உண்டு என்பதை பஞ்ச தந்திரக் கதைகளும். சங்க இலக்கியக் காட்சிகளும் காட்டுகின்றன.நேற்றைய பிரிட்டிஷ் பத்திரிகைகள் வெளியிட்ட ஒரு செய்தி மேலும் இரண்டு சமபவங்களை நினைவுபடுத்தின. 1. நான் பள்ளிப் பருவத்தில் 1960-களில் படித்த ‘தேக்கடி ராஜா’ கதை (இணைப்பைப் பாருங்கள்) மற்றொன்று உலகப் புகழ் பெற்ற ஜப்பானிய நாய். இப்போது டோக்கியோவில் சிலையால் புகழ் பெற்றுவரும் நாய். இது தவிர மாதாகோவிலுக்கு வந்த நாய், சங்கராசார்ய மடத்தில் இருந்த நாய், மஹாபாரதத்தில் பாண்டவர்களைத் தொடர்ந்து வந்த நாய், ரிக் வேதத்தில் உள்ள சரமா நாய், அதை கிரேக்கர்கள் ஹெர்மஸ் என்று காப்பியடித்த நாய் என்று ஏராளமான மிருகங்களின் கதைகளை இந்த ‘பிளாக்’கில் படிக்கலாம். இது தவிர சிவன் மூலம் முக்தி பெற்ற மிருகங்களின் கதைகளையும் கொடுத்தேன்.
புதுக் கதையை மட்டும் எழுதுகிறேன் …..
இங்கிலாந்தின் தென் மேற்கு மூலையில் உள்ளது டெவன் பிராந்தியம். அதில் உள்ள டார்ட்போர்ட் அருகில் கிங்ஸ்வேர் (Kingswear near Dartford in Devon, England) என்னும் இடத்தில் கடலில் 20 டால்பின்கள் (Dolphins) கரையை நோக்கி நீந்தி வந்தன. அவை அங்கே சோகத்துடன் தத்தளித்துக் கொண்டு இருந்தன. ஒன்றிரண்டு டால்பின்களை அரிதே காணும் மக்களுக்கு இது வியப்பாக இருந்தது. பின்னர்தான் விஷயம் புரிந்தது. அதற்கு முதல் நாளன்று கடற்கரை தடுப்புச்சுவர் அருகில் ஒரு குட்டி டால்பின் இறந்து கிடந்தது. தலையில் இரண்டு வெடிகுண்டுக்கு காயங்கள் இருந்தன.
செத்துப்போன தனது குழந்தையைத் தேடி அதன் தாயாரும் தகப்பனும் நண்பர்கள் உறவினர்கள் புடை சூழ அந்தக் கடற்கரைக்கு வந்ததாகப் பத்திரிகை செய்திகள் கூறுகின்றன.
டால்பின்களும் திமிங்கிலங்களளும் குட்டி போட்டு பால் கொடுக்கும் கடல் வாழ் பிராணிகள் (Mammals). மீன் போல தோன்றினாலும் மீன் வகையை சேர்ந்தவை அல்ல. டால்பின்களின் மூளை மிகப்பெரியவை. மனிதர்களை போல குடும்பத்துடனும் உறவினர்களுடனும் கூட்டாக வாழும் பிராணி வகை. உலகம் முழுதும் டால்பின்களை பற்றி நிறைய கதைகள் உண்டு. கிரேக்க நாட்டுச சிறுவனை டால்பின் ஏற்றி சென்று காப்பாற்றிய கதை முதல் இன்று வரை பல சம்பவங்கள்.

தேக்கடி ராஜா கதை இறந்து போன யானைத் தலைவனுக்கு நள்ளிரவில், நடுக் காட்டில், பௌர்ணமி இரவில் நூற்றுக்கணக்காண யானைகள அஞ்சலி செய்த கதை. இது நான் பள்ளிக்கூடத்தில் இருக்குபோது பத்திரிகையில் தொடராக வந்து எல்லோரையும் அசத்திய கதை- 50 ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பின்னர் லண்டனில் பிரிட்டிஷ் லைப்ரரியில் மீண்டும் படித்தேன். டால்பின் செய்தி வந்தவுடன் அதுவும் நினைவுக்கு வந்தது.

When negative emotons are very forceful, they are harmful. A slightly nervous athlete may do better than a perfectly cool one. But the over nervous football player misses even an easy goal. The slightly nervous student may be impelled to more intensive study. But the student who approaches the examination with trepidation will probably fail. Because it is so easy for negative emotions to get out of hand and do damage. We should rather cultivate strong positive emotions and do even better without the risk of harming ourselves.

A moving story about dolphins appeared in London news papers this morning. It reminded me of the Tokyo dog Hachiko which went to railway station for nine years (see the last paragraph) looking for his master who was already dead.
When we were studying in Setupati High School in Madurai (Tamil Nadu,South India) another novel that was serialised (Year 1960) in a weekly moved everyone and made them great animal lovers. The novel written by M P Subramanyan was titled ‘Thekkady Raja’ (King of Thekkady). Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary begins from Thekkady which is very near Tamil Nadu border with Kerala. A dam built across River Periar is surrounded by thick forests. Nature lovers can travel by boat to the dam and on the way see the wild animals.
A friend invited the novelist to show the wild animals such as elephants, tigers, deer and bears. But the friend insisted that he should come a few days before Kartik Purnima (full moon day in the month of Kartkai). He went to Thekkady and spent two days with his doctor friend and on the day of Purnima he was woken up half way through his sleep. There he saw a beautiful scene where hundreds of elephants gathered to pay homage to its leader- an elephant who was named Thekkady Raja. When the forest worker Thangasamy ,lighted camphor in respect at the Samadhi (grave) of the elephant Raja and a girl named Nalini. All the elephants raised their trunks and blared and marched back in the bright moon light. Then the author gives the back ground story of departed elephant Raja and departed woman Nalini on the Kartik Purnima day long back. It was a well -read novel in those days. I read it again after five decades in the British library in London.
The dolphin story reminded me of Tokyo dog Hachiko and Thekkady Raja.

“DOLPHINS who made a rare appearance in a harbour are believed to have been looking for a member of their pod feared to have been killed.
Twenty of the creatures returned to Kingswear near Dartmouth in Devon (in Britain) the day after a dead dolphin was washed up on a slipway with apparent bullet wounds to the head.
Andy Kyle, 63, who took the photos, said he had never seen more than one dolphin in the harbour before. ‘Groups kept swimming past where the dolphin was found. The dolphin looked like a baby. The idea that they were coming back to look for it is very sweet.’
Local retailer Jonathan Hawkins, 53, said one woman had seen two bullet holes.
Animal charity Orca said the idea of ‘very social’ dolphins searching for a pal is credible.
A post mortem is currently taking place on the dead dolphin amid reports that it may have been shot dead.
These heart breaking pictures show a pod of dolphins making a rare venture into a harbour looking for their dead friend. More than 20 mammals were seen at the same spot near Dartmouth, Devon, where another dolphin washed up on the slipway. Locals said they had never seen so many dolphins in the area at one time while experts said it was ‘certainly possible’ they had come to find their dead pod member.

The most famous Tokyo dog Hachiko was raised by a professor at the University of Tokyo. Every day the dog came to Shibuya railway station to receive him. After a year of this strange friendship, Professor H. Ueno died suddenly. He never came to the station, but the dog Hachiko came to the station looking for his master everyday for nine years!! The dog died of cancer in 1935. Even before it died, a newspaper story about the dog made it a national celebrity. In 1934, one year before its death, people erected a bronze statue in front of Shibuya Railways station and the dog also took part in the opening ceremony! After its death, is body was stuffed and is kept in the National Museum in Tokyo.
