Usually, when you hear about alum it is in reference to potassium alum, which is the hydrated form of potassium aluminum sulfate and has the chemical formula KAl(SO4)2·12H2O. However, any of the compounds with the empirical formula AB(SO4)2·12H2O are considered to be an alum. Sometimes alum is seen in its crystalline form, although it is most often sold as a powder. Potassium alum is a fine white powder that you can find sold with kitchen spices or pickling ingredients. It is also sold as a large crystal as a “deodorant rock” for underarm use.

Potassium alum, potash alum, or potassium aluminium sulfate is a chemical compound: the double sulfate of potassium and aluminium, with chemical formula KAl(SO4)2. It is commonly encountered as the dodecahydrate, KAl(SO4)2·12H2O. It crystallizes in cubic structure with space group P a -3 and lattice parameter of 12.18 Å[4]. The compound is the most important member of the generic class of compounds called alums, and is often called simply alum.[5]

கமலாம்பாள் சரித்திரம் நாவலெழுதிப் புகழ்பெற்ற ராஜம் ஐயரின் கதையின் இரண்டாவது பகுதியைப் பார்ப்போம். முதலில் புல்லட் பாயிண்டுகளில் (Gist in bullet points) சாராம்சம்:-
ராஜம் ஐயருக்கு சாந்தானந்த ஸ்வாமிகள், குருவானது எப்படி என்பதை இப்பகுதியில் காணலாம். முதலில் காசு கொடுப்போரை மட்டுமே தரிசனத்துக்கு அனுப்பியதால் அவரைப் பார்க்க ஐயருக்கு முடியவில்லை. பின்னர் சுவாமிகளே அவரைப் பார்க்க ஆர்வம் தெரிவிக்கும் சந்தர்ப்பம் நிகழ்ந்தது. முதலில் பக்திப் பெருக்கால் கண்ணீர் விட்டுத் துதிபாடிய ஐயர், பின்னர் சுவாமிகளின் உபதேசத்தால் தியானம் முதலிய செயல்களில் ஈடுபட்டு மனச் சாந்தி பெற்றார்.

பெரிய மனிதர்கள் பலர் நீண்ட நாள் வாழ்வதில்லை; காரணம்- இவர்களை இறைவன் சில குறிப்பிட்ட பணிகளுக்காக அனுப்பிவிட்டு, அது நிறைவேறியவுடன் மீண்டும் அழைத்துக் கொள்கிறான் போலும்.
மஹா கவி பாரதியார், சுவாமி விவேகாநந்தர், தமிழில் இரண்டாவதாக நாவல் எழுதிய பி. ஆர். ராஜம் ஐயர் ( B R RAJAM IYER) , பரிதிமாற் கலைஞர் என்று பெயரை மாற்றிக்கொண்டு தமிழுக்கு செந்தமிழ் தகுதி கோரிய முதல் தமிழன் வி.கோ. சூரிய நாரயண சாஸ்திரி, மற்றும் கணித மேதை சீனிவாச ராமானுஜன் ஆகியோர் காலச் சுவட்டில் அழியாத இடம் பதித்து விட்டு 40 வயதுக்குள் இறந்து விட்டனர். பூதவுடல் அழிந்தாலும் புகழ் உடம்பு சூரிய சந்திரர்கள் உள்ளவரை நீடிக்கச் செய்துவிட்டு மறைந்தனர்.
வேத நாயகம் பிள்ளை எழுதிய பிரதாப முதலியார் சரித்திரம் நாவலுக்கு அடுத்தபடியாக கமலாம்பாள் சரித்திரம் எழுதி, தமிழ் உரைநடை இலக்கியத்தில் முக்கிய இடம் பெற்றவர் ராஜம் அய்யர். அவரைப் பற்றிய பழைய நூல், லண்டனில் பிரிட்டிஷ் லைப்ரரியில் உள்ளது. அவரது வாழ்க்கைச் சரிததத்தை இணைத்துள்ளேன். முழுக்கப் படிக்க நேரம் இல்லாதோருக்கு இதோ புல்லட் பாயிண்டில் Bullet points சுருக்கி வரைகிறேன்:
